Transmission Swap

2008 JKU, transmission has gone tango uniform @ 200,000 miles and I have a replacement low-miles salvage part sitting here.

Anybody seen a write up on a transmission swap ? Some of those bolts on the bell housing look damn near impossible to get to.

I haven't done a JK but I did pull the transmission on an XJ. Had to tilt the whole motor and transmission down to get access to the top of the bell housing. Also had to get creative with some stubby tools.

That sounds like no fun at all.

Just did my 6 speed. You need to tilt the whole assembly pretty far down to reach the top 2. Long extension and an impact gun will make it a lot easier.

Thanks for the tip .. how much extension will I need ? I probably have about 18 - 24 " worth right now.

I wonder if the haynes service manual is worth having / helpful for a transmission swap.
