As it happens I just went through this. I have a Tuffy deck in my JK that I wanted to retain. I also wanted to get a fridge that I could keep in the back of the Jeep somewhere and not have on the seats. I looked at the dimensions of models from ARB, Dometic, and others. All are too tall to fit under the Tuffy deck. I ended up with an ARB 37, which fits perfectly on top of the deck. It is tall and a bit inconvenient to get in and out of, but it’s certainly usable. One reason I went with the ARB over the Dometic is that the ARB lid opens in two ways. You can hinge it up, which is rather tight when a hard top or soft top is on, or you can detach the entire lid with a kind of sideways tearing motion. With the lid off, it’s much easier to reach in. It didn’t seam like the Dometic lid can open in that way.

BTW, the ARB 50 has the same footprint as the 37, but is about 4-5 inches taller. That extra height would make it unusable on the Tuffy deck unless the Jeep was topless.

It is for this reason that I own both a 37 and a 50. I got the 37 to use in Moby with his deck. Of course, now that I no longer need rear seats for people, I just carry the fridge where the driver side rear seat used to be.
 
I assume then my best option for carrying my 50qt ARB fridge is to take the deck top off on trail days?

Well, if you absolutely need all your rear seats open, you "can" position it sideways and make it work but it essentially takes up the entire deck that way.
 
Thanks for the response. You are right, I generally have the rear seats flat for our dog. Can just leave it that way and he can share space with the fridge when needed.

How often would you disassemble this to make use of the entire space?...I'm assuming that's why they went with large wing nuts?

For me, only once or twice a year, if I need to transport something large enough to require putting the seats down. On the JK model, the top deck and back panel come out without tools. The side walls remain but don’t take up much space.

If I didn't have other Jeeps or trucks I can drive and use for big stuff, I might need to remove the top and back panel more often but, being that I do have other options, I rarely touch them.

Tuffy makes great products and that security enclosure looks great in your JL. I installed a smaller Tuffy security enclosure in my JK that retains full rear seat function. EZ to remove and strong enough to keep your gear and stuff safe. I think my security enclosure improved the Alpine subwoofer and overall sound in my JK.

Great Video and I like the idea, but if the top is off or you are running a soft top couldn't someone reach in or cut a quick hole and unlock the doors then open the rear door and have access to all items?
 
I see that and get that it's just a deterrent but by simply unlocking the doors to unlock the tailgate and you have instant access to items.

Not sure but does the key fob have to be in range in order for the door lock button to work?

If the JL is like the JK, you cannot unlock the gate by using the unlock button for the doors...at least not if everything was locked using the key fob.

Just went out to test this out and if you lock your doors with the key FOB, you CANNOT unlock the doors without it - NONE of the doors.

That’s interesting. I can see the tailgate being that way, but what happens if your fob completely goes tits up and it’s locked?
