Where would you go?

Looking at the map, the closest place for us would be to head out to the St. George area - maybe Kolab Canyon or Hurricane. Although, Pioche, NV might be in the path as well and would have fewer tourists. Not really sure but, whatever the case may be, it'll be a drive. Of course, this may be the only time in our lifetime that we could see something like this and I'd really hate to miss it.

Local planetarium had them. Went there and about 25 people had the same idea as me. I guess they sold out yesterday. They were only $2. I'm selling them to Sharkey for $5 though. ;)

The local photography stores are sold out of filters for my Nikon though. I picked up a piece of welders glass at Home Depot for a few bucks hoping that will work.

So I could not find a solar filter for my Nikon so I did what any jeeper would do...a mod.

I have no idea if this will work or whether it will ruin my lens or eyes for that matter. But I taped some welders glass to my camera sun shade.

Only time in our lifetime? That map you posted said "Annual Solar Eclipse". Haha. I remember seeing one in elementary school in Pittsburgh... We all brought in a cereal box so we could put a pin hole in the cardboard for safe viewing.

Just took a look from here in Palmdale ca.
Only got to see it partially. I used my welding hood to look through. Worked great.

"Annular" not "annual."

Unfortunately, we ended up with cloud cover for ten minutes...the ten minutes when the moon was completely "ringed" by the sun. I bet MTG probably has some good picks of the partial eclipse though.

Storm rolled into Peoria around 6 or 7 and clouded up the whole sky... Not in a great location to see it anyways, too far east/north.

My $3 mod worked well. The tint was green so it is interesting. I thought my new work computer had a card reader but it doesn't. I'll have to post pics later. But like Sharkey said, we missed the best part.

As quick as you threw that lens mod together, I would expect you would already have the pics up... Your slacking Mike :cheesy: I missed it, I was poring drinks and starring at large Cleavage though:D
