ONE... OH... NINE!!! That's how long it took for use to finally get our brand new 2020 Jeep JT Gladiator Rubicon - a ridiculous 109 DAYS! And the craziest part about the whole thing is - this isn't even the Gladiator we ordered! But, I digress. The important thing is, we now have the unicorn in our possession - the mythical Jeep truck that we thought would never be made and waited almost 30 years to finally get. Today, it stands as the newest member of the WAYALIFE family and we're super excited to have it! In this short video, you'll get to see it up close and personal and you'll even get to hear a few of our first impressions of it. We hope you enjoy.

BONUS PHOTOS
The following are a few extra bonus photos that we took on our way up to Idaho, at the dealership and on our way back home again.

Being that we went from having to wait weeks for Launch Edition Gladiator that we ordered to having a comparable Rubicon available and waiting, we dropped what we were doing, loaded up our Jeep and hit the road.
https://www.wayalife.com/photos/_data/i/upload/2019/07/21/20190721130416-67f9c796-me.jpg

Having gotten a late start, a lot of our driving would be well into the night but that also meant we'd get to soak in an awesome Northern Nevada Sunset.
https://www.wayalife.com/photos/_data/i/upload/2019/07/21/20190721130502-390f7500-me.jpg

Of course, by the time we got to Winnemucca, we decided it might be better to call it a night and hit the road again early in the morning. And, just before we got to the Idaho border, we noticed that the pavement... was moving. Mormon Crickets - BLEH! :icon_crazy:
https://www.wayalife.com/photos/_data/i/upload/2019/07/21/20190721130538-72a307ea-me.jpg

The carnage was just nasty and we had to find a place to wash some of it off.

TA-DA!! Here it is - the mythical unicorn is about to become a reality for us.

FIRST DAY HOME - All Around Pics
Because there's no way this Gladiator will remain stock or at least, not for long, Cindy and I decided to take some all around pics so that we have a record of what it looked right after we brought it home.

Eddie, those Mormon crickets are crazy! Drove home from Vegas through Winnemucca a couple weeks ago. I thought they were leaves blowing across the ground at first. When I got out and looked, it freaked me out to see what they actually were. Ground seriously looked like it was moving. Thought they were locusts at first...thought Nevada was getting plagued.

Great video and awesome pictures. JT is growing on me!

Glad to see you finally get one.

Someone will luck out with your LE in a month or so.

The Mormon Crickets bring back memories. We used to get them in NW Colorado where I grew up. They will make the road slick and cause accidents. They pile up in the lanes, because they eat their own dead and leave nothing behind.
They also eat everything in their path. They will even eat the siding off of your house. Those bad mothers are no joke, just like a plague.

My first name idea is simply MAX. Its the Max amount of Jeep you can buy, with the Max payload, the Max towing and it's also short for Maximus.

109 days! Thats almost as long as I waited for my JLUR!! :clap2: I ordered it in Mojito in December. When I chased the stealer in January he found that because they dropped that colour for the UK, the factory cancelled my order! they just didn't bother telling the dealer.... so in January I ordered a Punk'n which I now have, but had to wait until April !! great jeep though :thumb:

Really excited to see what your plan for it is!

Think BIG! And a little different :yup:

Eddie, those Mormon crickets are crazy! Drove home from Vegas through Winnemucca a couple weeks ago. I thought they were leaves blowing across the ground at first. When I got out and looked, it freaked me out to see what they actually were. Ground seriously looked like it was moving. Thought they were locusts at first...thought Nevada was getting plagued.

EDIT: have you decided what you are going to do with the spare? Are most guys removing them entirely?

LOL - man, I hate those things! Really hard to clean off too :icon_crazy:

The JT will grow on you even more if you see one in persona and on 40's.

As far as the spare goes, most likely carry it on an EVO bumper/tire-carrier :yup:

Are you able to change the batteries in the Bluetooth speaker or when it dies is it toast?

I don't know for sure but I have a feeling it might be a one and one thing. Or, if you can change the battery, it's something you have to get from the dealership or something.

Awesome video! Congrats!

Thank you :)

CONGRATULATIONS!!

As far as names go, I really do like MAX and love your reasons for it, I just think that everyone will be calling their Gladiators Max.

I vote for the name Pegasus

That's more of a winged horse than a unicorn but it is still a mythical creature and could definitely work. :yup:

This must be a prank? First look and close ups of the Jeep truck and you didnít even drop the tailgate? Just sayin......

Looks great. Congrats!

Thank you :)

So awesome! Iím jealous and want one! Excited for you guys! I canít wait to see whatís in store for this build. Iíd name him Spartacus.

Cool video. Are you going to bedline it? Neat that it has a 110 outlet in the bed. Good idea!

Yeah, will most likely have that done sooner than later. :yup:

Great looking Jeep Truck! Iím glad to see that you two finally got it back to camp. Everest might be a fitting name...allusive, but if you have enough money and definitely in your case, determination, it can be yours. Congratulations!

Thank you and thanks for the great suggestion :thumb:

Iíd stick with Unicorn for the name.

Great job on the video! I really respect your honest opinion. Although itís not in the cards for me to get a JL or JT, I was smiling and happy for you both through the video! I absolutely loved the welcome from the rest of the Wayalife stable, with horns honking and lights flashing!!!

Maybe itís cheesy, but Iím thinking Gladys the Gladiator.

Than you and I'm glad that you could appreciate my honest opinion. I've had some people say that I seemed regretful and and nothing good to say. And really, nothing could be further from the truth. Praising the Gladiator is super easy - I mean, it's a Wrangler with a pickup bed, what's not to love. Nit picking it was hard to do but felt that I needed to be as honest as possible.

Glad you enjoyed the welcome and Gladys is a good name. :yup:

Outstanding! I still see "The Spaniard" Bronze colored beadlock rings, true Roman Gladiator Badass! Congrats Guys!

Congrats. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. I think the name should be ďJustin TimeĒ because I feel you guys got him after a ridiculously long wait, and not even the one you wanted.

Great video. Itís nice to hear someone be honest about some of the things that could have been done better.

Eddie: one question I have and, bear with me a bit here.
Assuming you guys have had it off-road some already, do you noticed the rear end wanting to go into ďwheel hopĒ at all when climbing obstacles? I would assume that the coil and shock setup would greatly reduce that from the standard leaf spring setup.
I ask because, it was a big reason I ditched trucks long ago for off-road rigs. I just found that to be really annoying and, perhaps it was due to suspension setup issues.

Although I haven't tested our JT in those conditions yet, I have in the EVO JT and I can tell you, none of that existed on it. The coils made a HUGE difference in how this truck feels.

I rewatched the video...your comments on the truck having a stiffer ride than your stock JLU may be due to the max tow package which probably have stiffer springs than without the tow package...

You might consider the name Marcus ...Marcus Attilius was a famous gladiator during Roman Times...

I'm sure Eddie will Chime in, but two I could think off is New untested powerplant and if he wants to swap a V8 later, he'll have issues legally as swapping from Gas to diesel in many states is a hassle if they do emissions and the like.

I responded to this by PM but thought I should add it here as well. While I love diesel trucks, I'm not real big fan about one on a Jeep. It's not available as of yet, it'll be way more expensive, the engine will be way bigger and heavier, it'll require DEF, from what I understand, it won't be able to tow as much due to heat and there isn't any diesel available in the remote stretches of Nevada. Just to name a few.

jorgelrod
08-09-2019, 05:04 PM
...it won't be able to tow as much due to heat...

This is what surprises me the most, considering that it has higher torque and almost all heavy hauling is done by diesel engine based vehicles.

I guess the engine bay is probably pretty tight in space to not allow heat dispersion properly.

It was our hope to install an EVO tire carrier but last I heard, this may or may not be something they will produce or at the very least, it may not be ready in time. Needless to say, we're looking at all options even if it's a temporary one.

Iím really curious how evo (or any manufacturer for that matter) can make something that would retain the use of the reverse camera. Maybe someone can figure out how to wire up a JL camera on a swing out carrier or something. If not, a roof rack on the cab wouldnít be too terrible to mount a tire on, though taking it down and lifting it up would be a chore... definitely some things to consider. [emoji848]

All you would really need to do is relocate the camera. Shouldn't be too hard to do being that it just plugs into a wire.
