2014 JKUR New Wheel Question

Stock rig (daily driver) with a 1.5 EVO leveling kit. Getting new 285/70/17 (Cooper SST Pro) tires and decided that I would upgrade the rims to 17x9 with a 3.5 BS for the next jump to 37’s and new suspension. Looks like the most common wheel with a 3.5 BS is an ATX Slab.

The ATX Slab or Machete Bead locks look to be my options 1 & 2. Looking for input if anyone knows of another wheel with 5x5 and 3.5 BS that they would recommend to look at. End game is coilovers and the main reason for the 3.5 BS.

BTW, met Mel at EVO when I walked in to buy the leveling kit, what an awesome person to talk to.

Most beadlocks are available in 3.5 bs. If you’re looking for a non beadlock wheel that’s a little more affordable, you can check out the Interco Birddogs. 3.5 bs non beadlock but has basically a bead retention ribbon the inside of the wheel.

Thanks Speedy, a non beadlock is an option that I was looking for to compare what is available.

I haven't heard of a "bead retention ribbon" before. For my purposes, I'm thinking beadlocks may not be necessary. If I can safely air down to 10 - 12 psi with these then they might be an option worth considering. Do es anyone have experience with these wheels? How much does this design help over a more "conventional" wheel? Thanks!

That was auto correct. Should be “bead retention rib on”. I have no direct experience with them but wheeled with a guy that had em. He didn’t have anything bad to say.

ATX chamber pro II's are 4" b.s. so they don't stick out as far. The KMC is a newer version and from the pictures it looks like they'll drain water rather than hold a quart after a rain or washing the rig.

Here is an EVO leveling kit with slabs and 285’s

Thanks for everyone’s input. I decided to go with the Method 105’s. Firstly I like the look of the wheels and 3.5 BS, then the lowish weight of 32 lbs (weight stated by Method and not including spacers).

This is a step towards 37’s and everything in between. I know that I don’t “need” beadlocks now, but by purchasing now, I get the option for wider wheels that don’t need to be re-purchased again later in the build.

Side note for American Tire Depot in Orange CA. These guys not only came in with the best price on a set of 5 cooper STT Pro 295/70/17 tires, they also installed them on the new beadlocks!

I get the whole YMMV concept, but Frank took care of business at the Orange CA location. I knew exactly what needed to be done and provided the tire installer with personal instructions. They made it clear that BL’s took a lot of labor and they would need to do it over time. Dropped off at 8am and was complete by 2PM.

My advice would be to look for your local “Frank” if you use ATD...
