DANA Ultimate UD60 TORTURE TESTED & PROVEN on the JL / JT Experience

And really, that’s all we were hoping to do - gain real world experience with the UD60. The problems they had in the past seem to have been addressed and punishing them with the skinny pedal all week long showed me that they were up to whatever we could throw at them.

This was going to be my question, whether they had addressed the issues they showed when they came out for the JK. Am I safe in assuming these are the same for JK or JL or do you know if the ones for JK still have some of the issues from the past?

Honestly I wasn’t pissed when it broke because that is pretty normal. It was only the lack of customer service that has been disappointing.

I did have a talk with RCV today because yeah, if we’re gonna change them we might as well make them stronger. I might end up going that route.

Premier which ultimately means NR. They tried to get traction with Spicer and no luck. I called Trans, ECGS, Quadratec, and just about anyone else that sells them with no luck.

So, from what I'm hearing, Premier is the one who's dropping the ball on you and conveniently blaming Spicer. No surprise to me.

Again, I am no fan of RCV but at the moment, they seem to be the only ones who can make a custom shaft in a hurry. I was seriously considering getting a set ahead of the JL/JT Experience, just to be safe but ran out of time. Until or unless better options become available, I still may get a set.

As Bubba said, they're essentially the same axle only with beefier brackets. The corners still aren't wrapped but that's an easy fix and for our purposes, pretty much all of them got cut off.

Premier isn’t directly blaming Spicer, I am. They confirmed what Spicer told me. 93 days. From what every vendor told me that is actually better than the 180+ days they were telling everyone a couple of months ago.

I’m working on the RCV’s right now. It’s just tough to swallow $2700 (dealer cost) for a set of axle shafts.

$2700? Do they take you to dinner and bring some lube for that price too?

You bought your axles through Premier and they are the ones who are supposed to be taking care of warranties. From what I'm hearing, they aren't. There should be no reason for you to be contacting Spicer directly for anything. From my perspective, Premier is the one who isn't helping you out.

Like I said, I am no fan of RCV. They snap crackle and pop like a son of a bitch, RCV will tell you this is totally normal and then to add insult to injury, they'll charge you a huge premium for it all. But, they'd still beat running a set of standard shafts with c-clips.

Don't get me wrong but, axle shafts and u-joints break. I mean, it's the whole reason why there are manufacturers who make aftermarket shafts and u-joints. For me personally, I've never been thrilled about the shafts that come on the UD60 especially being that the u-joints come with c-clips and it's a big part of why I've been looking for aftermarket shafts. Again, I'm no fan of RCV but even before hearing about your break, I started looking into them as a possible upgrade. Hell, even the standard shafts that come on Dynatrac axles aren't anything to write home about and members here on this forum have broken theirs. It's because of this that I always made sure to upgrade to competition shafts with CTM u-joints. My point being, it's just a u-joint, NOT the housing or anything else and if anything, I'd be using the opportunity to upgrade to something better. :yup:

That somewhat answers a question I have been contemplating. I keep breaking 1350 u-joints on my front axle.
I was contemplating CTMs or something comparable to see if that fixes the problem.

Yeah, I know... just didn’t know RCV’s were that expensive.

They are stupid expensive. Even on a Dana 44, they're about $400 more than a chromoly shaft with full circle clips. Fanboys will tell you that they come with an awesome lifetime warranty and that'd be great and all if they actually warrantied things l like the obnoxious snap crackle and popping they make after hard use. But, to be fair, they still are stronger than standard shafts with c-clips.

To be fair, competition shafts with CTM u-joints like what you can get as an option on Dynatrac's really aren't really aren't too far off in price.

Have you ever rebuilt RCV shafts? I watched the videos and it looks like a giant pain in the ass. Still, I may do it over Winter just to quiet the damn things down.

Premier offered a complete housing but considering we already welded a mount to it for the ram, I didn’t want to start over. So yeah I’d say they gave it their best shot. Now let’s pretend I’m a dealer direct with Spicer. The issue would still exist because the axle shafts don’t exist in the US, according to Spicer.

Thought about accepting the whole thing and returning it with a broken shaft?

Nope and yes, I have seen what it takes. No bueno.

:cheesy: Okay, I'm totally confused... Premier offered up a COMPLETE HOUSING to help you out and you turned it down over some tabs you had welded on and didn't want to do again? Am I missing something?? Because, it sure sounds to me like they were willing to go above and beyond to keep you happy.

Why go that far. Take the complete housing, pull the shaft needed, wait until the new shaft arrives and sell the axle at retail to a customer. I mean, unless nobody in Texas is buying UD60s.

So did Dynatrac piss all you off in one email or something? Glad to see there is another option out there holding its own.
