One day I’ll get one big enough for a full rack of ribs as one piece :D

Just pulled the trigger on my first smoker. Technically the wife did for a past due Bday/fathers day gift. Not sure when it will come in, but I’ll be post up when it arrives.

I’ll be asking a lot of questions and reading up more on this thread and elsewhere online. Looking forward to learning and eating some great food.
Question for those using pellet smokers.

Best brand of pellets? Worst brand of pellets?

Thx.
What smoker did you end up getting? I've only used the recteq pellets so far, happy with them but my smoker can use any so I'll start to venture out when this last bag is done

This^ what did you get?

As for pellets, get whatever is local to start with. You won’t know a difference at first. Learn how to cook the meat on it before you start to experiment with different brand and flavor pellets. Just don’t get the pellets used in wood stoves. Those won’t be good. 🤪

I got the recteq 590. All the bells and whistles, just a little smaller, but based on my research should be plenty of area to cook what I need.

Just wondering if there are shit brands that don’t burn right or expensive brands not worth the $$$. Not worried about flavors really yet. More just if any difference in quality.

The smoker should be arriving soon. Got a call to schedule delivery.

Nice man, your going to love it. Seems like if you stick to a hardwood blend it'll cover most cooks and brand wise the guy I work for runs the costco ones through his RECTEQ and is happy, id imagine most are good enough, maybe someone else will chime in on no go's but I haven't heard any brands that aren't good.

So far Rec Tec pellets have been my favorite. I’ve been using Weber pellets for a bit and don’t like them much. I’d avoid them if you can.

Might need check out the Costco ones. Usually their brands products are pretty good.

I picked up a bag of Bear Mountain alder pellets a couple of weeks ago, very little ash and about half the price of Traeger.

Thanks. I’ll give this a look and see if any retailers local.

I just hate you ha e to buy $200 worth of recteq.

Funny, cuz they just partnered with Weber and pumping their pellets lately. Good to know to avoid.

Fun Costco fact. For a product to wear their Kirkland name it must be THE best in the market. It must be at least 1% better in some quantifiable way then the product it is rebranding. So that Kirkland vodka that is made my grey goose, is actually in some way better then the grey goose. Etc.

Yeah if it says Kirkland on it I don't hesitate to try it. Especially if its significantly cheaper. I have a couple of their soft shell jackets and think they are as good or better than Mountain hardware or Northface. Plus they cost $20. Saved me over a hundred...haha. If I don't like it I can always return it.

I think they partnered with Kingsford over Weber. You can get Rec Tec pellets at Home Depot. You can order them online and just get single bags so you don’t have to order 5 of them. Congrats on the smoker you will love it. Keep us posted on how it goes for you. I just pulled a brisket off mine 5 mins ago. Not just have to wait for it rest for awhile before cutting into it.

Hoping to contribute with the pellet talk in a few weeks. I ordered a bunch of BBQ Delight pellets in a variety of blends. Another month or two before my cooker arrives. [emoji52]

Just got my half chord of post oak firewood delivered for my stick burning smoker. Once it cools off I’ll be using that smoker for awhile. Sadly the app won’t let me pull up the picture of it that I just took.

Yeah. Good catch. I meant kingford. Last time I checked my HD sold the traeger pellets. On the recteq site, you have to drop $220 on their pellets. That was the main reason I was asking. Didn’t want to spend that much of their were equal alternatives for less. Nor did I really want to store 200lbs.

Smelled fine. It does look bad. But once trimmed it looks normal again. Out of a 6.5 pound cut I got 2.5 pounds of usable meat. It’s like $40 a pound. Lol

So basically what you'll have left is the normal part you can see im the middle?

So you're saying at that if you cut it into 4-10oz steaks you could sell them at a restaurant for at least $50 a plate?...haha. You'd double your money.
