Random (non-Jeep) Shit You’re Working On....

But he's only got one red. I'm guessing the white coming into the box is hot but no one marked it that way.
Need to know where the red comes off the switch.

Per the schematic on the machine, should be a black and a white coming off the switch to house power.

I assumed the red wire was the secondary hot wire but maybe it's the ground? I'll swap them and see if that lets out any angry pixies.

Open the switch box on the machine and see where the red is landed. Might save you a circuit breaker and some eye brows....

Unfortunately I have two of these things and I already hung them 15' in the air so that's not helping. I think you guys are right though the "pig tail" coming out of the machine may not be original to the machine. Maybe they wired them up goofy and just never used the high speed. I'll open one up later and see how it's wired up. Thanks again for the help.

Just a light switch. I originally had the white wire running through the switch as well but it didn't change anything.

Yes sorry, The unit has 3 buttons for low, med, high.
That's what you need to open and see where the red is going. Your light switch is just interrupting power for an on/off function.

Yes, it's amazing what people will throw into a circuit and why. As simple as tagging the wires and what they are if using a color not associated with it's purpose.

Yeah, Here I was thinking this was going to be a home run. Maybe the high button is just broken or something. I need to wire up the machine as well so that will eliminate some variables.

Are any electchickens able to help me out here? I wired this dust collector and it seems very anemic. Low and Medium work but when I switch it to high it turns off. I'm concerned that somehow I'm only getting one hot leg to the motor.

This is the diagram.

There is no green ground coming out of the machine only white, black, and red. I assume that Black and red are hot and white is the ground.
Can you see the nameplate on the actual motor to make sure it’s actually 220 and not 110. Since it’s an American product I’d be surprised if it didn’t follow our color code. Black and red would each be a hot leg and white being neutral. It’s very odd that the diagram doesn’t show the red wire. The diagram looks to be for a 110 motor but it clearly say 220-240.

Unfortunately, the motor is at the far end of the air duct so I don't have good access right now. I am going to wire the second unit up and see if the high switch is working on that one. I would like to rule out a bad switch before I have to bring these things down from the ceiling and open them up.

It looks like these were all made with an 8ft cord and plug. Sounds like you got these second hand and someone has previously cut the cord and plug off and replaced at some point. So essentially color code probably means nothing or at least can’t be trusted. If you don’t have the manual shoot me your email and I can send you one.

Getting close to completion on the basement bedroom for my brother in law! Just a little more trim to pick up and install. Luckily a client was getting rid of a tv for a bigger tv. So we were able to take it and utilize it.

Built a new mantle and installed in time for some holiday decor.

May next take on some shaker cabinets to cover part of the alcoves. TBD.
