Anyone know what this connector is?

This connector comes off the left side of the transmission right next to the shifter. Any idea what it is?

Neutral safety switch? Or is that wired to the clutch? Could it be for reverse lights?

Thanks so much! Does it matter what wire goes where. On the plug there is a "1" and "2" the wires are black and then green with white stripe
