So I am definitley doing Ram Assist 1st round of mods, seeing as my last two outings with 38x15.5's really didnt work on the rocks with my stock steering box. I did search and nothing really came up under Howe. I know this guy is huge in the racing world and does baja, Drakar and other high end systems. I talked to an installer and they measure your specific rig for the internal stops and a couple other things (I cant remember what he said, Im new to Ram Assist). He did say they needed the vehicle for as couple of hours to take measurements and get those off to Howe. The email below is what I got back from Howe. The installer says its $2300 installed. Does anyone here have any real world experiemnce with his systems? I have heard Howe systems are top notch.
Hi Mike,
This is our System for Jeep Jk's - http://howeperformance.com/rockcrawler-rubicon.htm
We do our systems differently then PSC and all of the other Steering companies in the Industry.
First step is to mark your Steering Box for Internal Stops.
Here is a link with instructions, http://howeperformance.com/pdfs/ps_box.pdf
The reason we have you mark your Box is because we want the Steering Box to stop internally when the Axle stops. This prevents the Steering Box from damaging the Axle, Ram, and itself.
Once you have marked the Steering Box ship it to us with a note inside of the box with the Internal Stop information & your name, phone number etc. Current lead time is 10-12 business days.
We will modify your Steering Box with all new 0-mile parts, no reman.
The system requires the following parts:
P# Modify JK Steering Box $ 625 (If Box is 3 Bolt Saginaw modification is $1,100)
P# Ram $305 (Travel to be determined based on Steering Box dimensions)
P# 210 T/C Pump $245
Pulley's Range $80-115
P# 1010 Reservoir w/ Filter $220
P# 1104 In Line Cooler $70
The reason we recommend a Reservoir w/ Filter is because all Pumps make metal as they ware – this is what turns the Power Steering Fluid black. The oil is $10 a quart, $30 of oil on board, it's a good idea to filter it.. you can get a entire Race Season out of it! And if it is a recreational vehicle you can get years out of the fluid.
Here is a link with images of the complete system, http://howeperformance.com/rockcrawler-rubicon.htm
Here is a link of a hose diagram, http://howeperformance.com/pdfs/jeep4x4 hose diag.pdf
We also require you to use one of the following Power Steering Fluids,
Swepco 715 or AC Delco 89021182 (Sold at GM Dealerships)
Hoses are also critical - http://howeperformance.com/accessories-hosekits.htm
We sell the hose by the foot and carry fittings in 45 degree, 90 degree, and straights.
Here is a link to bleeding instructions, http://howeperformance.com/pdfs/bleed-instr.pdf
We sell our components as complete systems. We will not sell a customer a component without the rest of the parts to complete the system, this is what sets us apart from our competitors and gives us our spotless reputation.
If you have any questions regarding the system please give us a call or shoot us over an email.
