Opinions in swapping gears to 4.10

I currently have 3.21s on a 13 sport 4 door running 33s, 35s this weekend. I have a buddy who upgraded his d30 to a d44 and said I can have it (originally just to take the shafts) it has 4.10 gears and he is regearing and said I can have the rear 4.10s. Would it be worth it to swap out the front axle (ofcourse i would gusset the c's on it before hand) and put the 4.10s in the rear. What all would I need to complete this? Either way I have a complete d30 sitting around.

Wait I'm confused

You are currently running a d30 up front with 3.21's and you want to swap your axle with another d30 that has 4.10's? And you only plan on putting the 4.10's in the rear?

You will need to have the same gear ratios in the front and rear, otherwise things will explodez

So I want need a bearing kit. Current dana 44 rear has 28k miles and no locker.

Just to avoid any problems down the line, if you haven't done one of these before, take pictures.
Make sure you count the shims on each side and mark them. Should be a good project. 12 beers for sure.

If both axles are non rubi and your buddies axle isnt built up or anything then you might be better to swap complete axles if you've never done a gear swap before. Probably faster also compared to swapping gears. Gears can take some time setting up.

Just a thought.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I may get a shop to do the rear gears and throw in a locker also. For the front I am going ro pretty much overhaul the one im getting, ball joints, wheel bearings, c gussets, fluid change, diff cover. When I swap over the 30s, ill probably throw in a sector shaft brace and trackbar reinforcement.

Wouldnt be able to just swap axles as his is built with a locker and all and mine is open atm.

So is your buddy going to pay a shop to do gears also?

No id pay to get the gears done. I would first sit down and see if I could tackle if first myself, if im affraid I might not be able to, it'll go to a shop. I have a local shop who only charges about $200 if I provide all the parts.

If they are worth a crap $200 is a steal. I wouldn't mess with them for $200, I'd let them do it.
