Superchips not recognizing vehicle id to retune after dealer flashed a few things.

When the dealer changed out my power steering pump a few days ago the service report showed a few software flashes. I was concerned that it erased my tune I had set. When I plugged in the tuner and try to retune it I get a message that vehicle id is not the original. The vin is the same that shows up on the programmer so would superchips reset my programmer? Or am I sh*t out of luck!

contact superchips, your original tune should still be in the programmer so they should be able to validate and help you out.

Sorry to hear about that.

By the dealership flashing the ecm they have locked your programmer.
I believe it's $100 to have Superchips unlock the programmer.
That's why I always inform any shop that the Jeep is flashed and I can flash it back to stock if they need it to be.
You can also buy a plug that goes over your obd that tells others not to flash it.

Any time the dealer reprograms your pcm, you risk losing your tune. They should have told you they were going to do this no matter what. When I wrote service, I always informed customers of reprograms even if under a recall or if the tech needed to do it and suspected an aftermarket chip/programmer. If there is any cost involved and the dealer did not make you aware that they were going to do this, you may be able to fight and get them to pay for it.

........If so, hopefully the dealership doesn't red flag the Jeep for that mod.....

You always have to tune back to stock before the dealer or they will change your stock tune and then Super Chips won't recognize your vehicle. Run in to this all the time in the Diesel world.

Just an update I called superchips and they were very nice and helped me out. After a bunch of questions He had sent an update that unlocked my superchips without the $100 cost.

They will help out when it's legit, I've put tape over the plug before to keep the dealer from making changes :thumb:

Mopar now plugs into every vehicle that comes in for service with a remote that scans for any updates. So I guess if you take it to the dealer for an oil change you have to flash back to stock.

Yea I noticed the last time I went, the valet plugged something in the obd2 and walked away. He didn't even answer when I asked what was he doing.

I put a zip tie around mine so no one can plug any thing into my obd port. When I do go to the dealership I also tell them I don't want anything plugged into the obd2 port without my knowledge.

Where can you buy these plugs? I like that idea. If I have to go to the dealer I always return to stock but this would be much easier.
