How to Disable Jeep

Hey guys, is there an easy way to disable the starter or engine on a JK if leaving somewhere overnight like a public parking lot? When I had a TJ, I could pull a starter fuse. Anything similar on JK?

You can pull the ignition fuse or pull the fuel pump fuse.

You could pull the fuel pump relay in the fuse box.
I'm not sure why this question comes up every now and again though, you really can't steal a newer vehicle without the keys.

These suggestions work but as stated with newer vehicles you can't just jump in and Hotwire it anymore. Which is why most stolen vehicles nowadays are drug off by a tow rig. Ask me how I know.

OK, how do you know? ;)

You can even have a key cut correctly, but if the chip isn't programmed correctly it's not going anywhere. The chips are pretty hard to fool. Preventing someone from towing it away is another story... start booby-trapping? Mad Max the shit out of it I guess.

Some people wire in a hidden kill switch. Theres different ways to do it , but you essentially find a signal wire and splice in a switch, hidden somewhere within reach. If its a stick, the clutch switch signal is the easiest. Another blog suggests putting a push-on push-off switch behind a flexible panel.

I have an automatic, so i use the start permissive wire on the column and wired it to a toggle switch hidden under the **REDACTED**. You think i'm giving away all my secrets?

Edit: News lately shows hackers with a laptop can get these newer jeeps to start. This basic kill switch will stop anyone, so long as they dont discover your method.

Good to know. Most of the time car thefts aren't that pre-meditated, just a junkie who needed a ride.

Another note, I'm pretty sure the JKs ignore the clutch switch signal in 4low. So someone could still start it without knowing where the switch is as long as they know to switch to 4low to start. You may be able to wire enough relays and switches to make it fool proof, but it gets complicated quick.

All that said, kill switches are cool  who cares how funcitonal they are.

Recently there was a theft ring busted in Houston using laptops to steal Jeeps and other Chrysler vehicles.

Many years ago, when I was driving an RX-7, I had a push-pull switch that was wired through the ignition fuse. I kept it jammed up under the dash. If you weren't looking for it, it was hard to notice.

I've had my 2 door disabled by my own keys before, yeah there are some sophisticated sobs out there, but I wouldn't get overly paranoid

So a trick from my old CJ5 days was to carry a nice cable and a big nasty lock. Medco, American, and a few others come to mind. Even used a logging chain for a while.

I would lace the cable/ chain through the steering wheel and down around the brake pedal. After cranking the steering wheel hard to one side and looking for a parking spot to nose in against a wall. It would be a bitch to tow it away. It would take a good while to cut the cable.
It was very obvious once you opened the door. (Soft top with no way to lock. If it even had the top on it)

Then just to make it interesting I had a coil cut off switch and a master disconnect.

This was in the hood parts of Memphis. :icon_crazy:
I was a truck driver and had to leave her for long periods of time.

A few weeks ago I found myself having to leave my JK in the shit hole of South Sacramento, and again I deployed the cable and lock. I currently have a hidden GPS tracker as well as a camera system pushing to the cloud also with GPS tracking.

Idea is to make it so damn difficult that the POS's go someplace else and mess with somebody else's stuff.
If they really want it and they are good they are gonna get it. Or they are gonna just efff it up for you. Good luck.:thumb:

This reminds me of some ideas i have for my Willys CJ-2A.

Pull the fuel pump relay. I do it to both my vehicles when I'm away. If they find the relays then shame on me.....
