Let's put it this way.......you need to make a concerted effort to come to South Africa. Your dollar will go a long way compared to our currency and it will be one of cheapest holidays you will have.
As a rhino ambassador, you will owe us a visit:)

OK, so here is the story about our Jeep Topless day at Care for Wild.

I met the guys and girls in our nearest town called Nelspruit at about 08:30 to show them the way to the sanctuary, Needless to say it is well off the beaten track in the middle of nowhere.
At about 09:30, we set off in convoy with a few stops to allow some late comers to catch up. We tried to limit the number of vehicles to 20, with 50 visitors, but ended up with about 22 vehicles.

On arrival at the reserve, we stopped in order for me to give the group a bit of a chat on what to expect and the do's and dont's while they were there.

From there it was a short drive up to the boma's where they all were introduced to the babies and were able to pet them and interact. The large group of humans was a bit over powering for the youngsters at first, but they settled down as soon as a few dry horse pellets were offered.

We took the group on a drive in convoy around the sanctuary to spot some of the older groups and finished off at the river where we have a beautiful spot for a barbecue.

Everyone had a great time judging from the Whatsapp messages this morning and were definitely touched by the babies at the sanctuary.

Although it doesn’t matter on the trail, you guys are driving on the wrong side of the highway! Nice JK!

It's about the 3rd biggest town in the province and is only about 50 kilometers from the Kruger National Park. So a lot of visitors come to Nelspruit.

Awesome pic. I’m surprised Arthur is that comfortable around humans and not pissed off at us.

Young Arthur is a very happy and healthy Rhino, the expression on his face in the pic says it all. It 's hard to think this is the same little guy who arrived at the sanctuary in a bad way with the terrible wound on his back that nearly severed his spine and the badly damaged foot, both inflicted by the poachers because he was trying to protect his Mom.
Unfortunately his care-giver, Dot (in the pic) has decided to move on and is leaving the sanctuary, so I'm sure he will be affected a little, but one of the other young ladies will step in and take him into her heart.

:yup:He has all the right to be pissed off with us, but that's all part of the rehab process and he has done so well.

We prefer the interaction to be more of a 1 on 1 scenario with just one care-giver so that the youngsters don't become too habituated to all kinds of humans. This way they will still be wary of people when they are finally introduced back into the wild. He is just a big baby with Dot, but shows a bit of apprehension with anyone else, which is a good thing.
