Best, least expensive, Spare tire carrier?

Any pics?

I thought a bigger tire on the stock tire carrier will cause damage over time to the gate door and hinges? And rattle around, squeak in the back? Also, with 35" tires, can you still see the stock tire carrier break light?

I mean if I can save $500, that would be ideal.

This is the best pic I could find of the carrier you are asking about. I still have stock wheels so didn't have to use rubber couplings yet. If you notice the little spacer behind the bar, it comes with 8 of them so you can space the bars in or out. As long as your tire pushes into the rubber bumpers you should be fine. I removed the third brake light for a better view out the back

I see Daystar, on quadratec, makes tail gate bump stops for $20. Anyone use these with the stock tire carrier? How are the bolts on the stock tire carrier for wheels with 4.5"-4.75" backspacing, reach?

Don't buy the daystar. Their old version was great but the new version sucks. They rot out quick and won't support the tire.

What Overlander said. I had a set of the old Daystar tailgate bumpstops and they held up great. After 2 years there was no fading, no issues whatsoever. I currently have a set of the new bumpstops and they are faded, pitted and have become brittle after about only 6-8 months. Tailgate started speaking for the first time too. Not sure what they changed, but the old ones were much better.

So are you going to get a new set or come up with an alternative?

This time around I'm going with an aftermarket tire carrier. I am eyeballing the OR Fab with the Jerry cans or possibly the Genright. I am going as low as possible with this next build, I'm thinking the protection around the tire might be a good idea.

I'm running a 37 on the stock carrier. Added a 1.5" spacer that brings it up and out so I could get my hand on the handle to the tailgate. That also required me to extend the isolators. Used the flexible coupling as mentioned.

My Tire rests on the Evo plate as well so it's super secure. Had to let air out of it tho lol
