Washable aftermarket filters are not as efficient as OE paper medias in terms of particle arrestance is concerned. The question becomes how much fine particulate are you OK with going into your engine? The washable cotton style filters flow more air because they are less restrictive, more porous but less efficient in capturing dust. If you want engine protection, go with your traditional OE style filters. If you want more flow, aka performance, then the afm washable style medias are the way to go.
