Driving through New Mexico into Colorado I passed some of the most amazing scenery I've ever seen in my life. Taking highway 550 and reaching elevations over 10,000 ft above sea level we spotted a small sign for a Wild Life Preserve and this is what we found ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404449727.502512.jpg

After a short stop at the lake we decided to make our way to Telluride and couldn't resist stopping along the road for a few pictures in this amazing area.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404449893.953947.jpg ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404449907.104828.jpg
Tomorrow we will be seeing the sights mostly around Telluride then enjoying a fireworks show in Montrose. Might do alpine loop and engineers pass also if we have time. If not Saturday is going to be full of wheeling and exploring.

I don't always wheel , but when I do I keep it tight......... Stay dirty my friends.

Finally got to do a little wheeling today at Porphyry in Ouray Colorado and all I can say is wow. Being from NY I've only seen things like this in movies and on TV ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543582.982517.jpg
Black Bear Pass is closed but found out today you can still access most of it from this trail.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543625.293816.jpg
The views are breathtaking , literally at 12,500 feet above seal level it's the 3rd highway trail in Colorado if I'm correct.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543691.241662.jpg
From here you can see some of the trail leading up to black bear pass.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543721.230358.jpg
Picture says it all.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543742.146892.jpg ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543760.355146.jpg
Almost at the top
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543782.747926.jpg
Stopped for a few photos and to change out the GoPro batteries.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543820.508620.jpg ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404543832.540344.jpg
Got all the way to the top to find 4ft of snow blocking the last .2 miles so decided we have seen enough and turned back as the sun was starting to set and wanted to be back on the road before sun down. Day 2 tomorrow we will be doing Alpine Pass.

I don't always wheel , but when I do I keep it tight......... Stay dirty my friends.

Someday I'll make this drive... It looks so beautiful. I made the trip from MA to Yellowstone about 8 years ago... It's my favorite vacation to date.
This however would probably tie for first :)

Day 2 in Colorado and since black bear pass was closed we decided to do Ophir Pass and Alta Lakes

Ophir Pass is 12,500ft above sea level and from beginning to end is about 6 miles long.

Starts off by going up a few switchbacks
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404616928.400385.jpg
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404616977.141031.jpg ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617004.619507.jpg

As we approached the summit we saw the 8ft of snow that had to plowed a few weeks ago. It's like driving through a wall of snow.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617064.808875.jpg
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617078.891122.jpg

I'm 6'6" so you can see how high the snow really is

ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617144.800769.jpg
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617155.501421.jpg

As we trekked on we came down a tight ledge and found this clearing which gave us a chance to snap a few more pictures.
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617223.736911.jpg
Anyone who knows me knows that I'm an Arizona iced yea whore lol
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617255.059612.jpg
Snapped a pic of my brother coming down the ledge road
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617292.231879.jpg
As we made it down to the end we stopped at a small water fall than ran from the top of the mountain all the way down to the base
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617356.820105.jpg

Next was on to the Alta Lakes
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617383.621760.jpg
Passing my all the old silver and gold mining buildings along the way really gives you an idea of what people really used these roads for back in the early 1900s.

The silver fox posing Infront of an older mining house along the trail
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617500.171461.jpg
A little further up the trail we spotted one of the larger mining settlements on the trail and this one had a water fall cascading down and through the middle of the settlements. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617559.916215.jpg

As we walked up the waterfall we found what seemed To be a cave but on further inspection we found it was man made. It seems to be some kind of water sifting tank you be the judge

After another mile or toe up the mountain we came to this beautiful lake
ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1404617931.496208.jpg
Would have been nice if it wasn't lightly raining but still was a great trip. I found a small rock to flex out a little and of course I couldn't resist lol

This is an awesome trip! Beautiful views!

Yellowstone is beautiful, but I don't, think you can wheel in the park, but it's awesome just the same.

Tomorrow we are going to rent some Polaris RZR's and have some fun in the morning. Then in the late afternoon the wheeling begins follows by 3 days of nothing but wheeling Moab style. Plan on doing Hells Revenge , Fins N Things and a bunch more just can't remember the names off hand.

Great times. I'm from Maryland and I've been to Moab twice and Ouray last summer. Imogene and Ophir were my favs. Under rated as it's easy, chicken comers is fun in Moab. The la sal loop is a great long run too. I would say my favorite was Kane creek though. I like the long trails, rather than the short technical ones though.

Ophir was great but I thought pophyryr was even better and much more dangerous lol I like the smaller technical trails personally but a nice long scenic route is always fun I love seeing great sights along the way. Doing chicken corner tomorrow afternoon then Thursday doing fins hells revenge steel bender and maybe another if we have time and aren't burnt to a crisp yet lol was debating on doing the la sal loop just cuz it's much cooler up there then downtown moab
