. Still sucks.
As for the locking hubs, I am willing to bet several folks actually pushed hard for that solution. Even if only an optional piece on say the Rubicon, if I were to guess. But unfortunately the vast majority of people are lazy/clueless and wouldn’t even know how to engage a hub. Sad but welcome to 2018!

Looks like maybe a spare or a borrowed one. The rear matches the Left front. Probably hit something so hard it broke the wheel and ruined the tire.

The automated disconnect entails a hole in the axle tube for the mechanism. Presumably the tube is weaker with the hole in it.

Nope, and can’t say I’d really want to lol. I’d definitely be advocating an aftermarket swap if it was at our shop.

The axle tube is two pieces coupled with cast sleeve that houses the disconnect motor

They're not related. It's just that this jl axle has the disconnect right in the middle of the axle tube creating a potential weak spot. Whereas locking hubs connect and disconnect near the wheel ends and the tube is a single solid piece.
