FYI for GMRS install

I love Sharkey’s install. That’s a great idea. I’m finishing up my ham radio install. I’ve got a Kenwood TM-V71A. I installed the main unit under the passenger seat (hanging from the bottom of the seat, not mounted on the floor where it could get wet). I didn’t think about installing it under the steering wheel. I’m going to mount the control unit on the a pillar. I also bought a Magnetic Mic holder. Not sure where I want to mount that. External speaker might go under the steering wheel. I wired power to the auxiliary wiring under the passenger side dash and connected it to the 40A Aux switch #1. I will post pics when I’m done.

Awesome little radio.

Couple suggestions:
I swapped out the included mic for the MXMC01 Mic. It has a dial for VOLUME/ON/OFF, which I prefer over the button.
RJ45 Waterproof Socket (Amazon <$20) to plug the mic into when being used.
I go straight to battery for power. Forgetting to turn it off hasn't been an issue.
