Just replaced H4 with a HID kit.
Photo taken in garage at noon but you can see difference.

Well worth the little money spent.
Left side HID right side regular bulb. Even the brights were brighter.

Big difference! What exactly is an HID kit? Is it a new assembly or just bulbs? Where did you get it and what was the cost?
Thanks

Wait till you get out on the road. They're bright but the reflector isn't focused correctly for HIDs so the light pattern is really blurry which can be annoying to the driver and everyone else on the road.

Exactly! Do a true projection Hid retrofit and you will have much better results.
Here is what a true Hid can get you on low beam.

It will light up 4 lanes plus the sides without bothering any on coming drivers.

Chad, I got the kit from one of the SCOR guys for 40 bucks. Met him at Morongo Casino parking lot. He has all of the different colors if you're interested but i just wanted the white. Went to dishpan a couple of weeks ago and got out after dark and couldn't see for crap with the halogens so decided up upgrade. I'll get and post his phone number for you shortly.

2nd.gunman, the hid lamps these come with have a shield that covers half the bulb so it does reflect well, but I put these into my HELLA h4 headlights that have a built in rear reflector for proper light pattern dissipation. Used for the last week at night without any other drivers flashing me. Attribute this to spending the money on the HELLA lenses a long time ago.

This kit took me literally 1 hour to install with mounting the ballasts and everything. I'm kinda analysis and don't like doing things twice. So finding where I wanted to mount the ballasts took the most time.

It takes 5 minutes to plug in the bulbs and connect the direct connection h4 plugs.

The first pic is the passenger side. Second is the hardware used to mount the ballast to the fender. I used lock tite since the machine bolts since they are so small. I think they're size 10-32. I had to slightly.drill the ballast mounting holes.larger.
Last pic is the reflector in my Hella light housings. Hard to see but it is there and works to correct the light pattern.

My experience with these kits has been all bad but it sounds like you might have gotten a good one. The hella lenses are probably helping as they have a diffuser built into the lens.

Interesting that you would consider them an upgrade, all Australian JKs come with Hella H4s stock and most of the guys here think they are the worst lights ever made. They're fitted with shit bulbs which may be the real issue. I replaced mine a few months back with some X-Ray H4s after they cracked during a night water crossing.

The yj comes with sealed halogen beam headlights, so the Hella headlights with replaceable h4 lights is most certainly an upgrade to those. The hid is most certainly an upgrade to the halogen h4 bulbs as we cannot easily get 100+ watt bulbs like we're easily available prior to the hid and led surge of lights on the market.

Not a lot of water crossings in southern California, mostly desert and mountain terrain. We always have a drought here.....wish there were more water crossings.

Sorry mate I was thinking JK not YJ so yeah they would definitely be an upgrade. As I said I found them ok and would still be running them if I didn't crack them just with better bulbs.

It's funny I wish we had more rocky trails here, it seems like even the dryest trails have a deep water crossing somewhere along them.

The rocks are great but thing are getting more difficult AS our government tries to shut down more and more trail access. Hope things are well down under.

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you though, the contact info would be great, definitely want a kit!

Over here it's not the government but the cost of insurance shutting a lot of the ORV parks but you can still go to most of the state forests and find some good trails. I'm one of the lucky ones living 1/2 hour from the mostly connected collection of state forests and national park known generally as glasshouse mountains. All the time I've spent out there I don't think I've driven half the trails.
