Keeping the Wife aggro to a Minimum

I want to say, I love my wife and care that she is happy, but sometimes if I say jeep too many times in one sentence, or even mention larger tires I feel like i'm on trial lol. So for all you out there with a wife who isn't impressed with your new found obsession, take a moment and let her drive your jeep , you might be surprised by her enjoyment ! You should have seen the look on her face when I said I was cutting the fenders...Anyways If you all have wives giving you fuss over a new set of tires or something that she thinks you don't need....let her drive the jeep, maybe even offroad. More often than not we all tend to distrust things we don't understand.

Agreed. My wife used to be completely against Jeeping and mods. My Jeep was supposed to stay stock forever. One wheeling trip, and that all changed for her. And now my rig is definitely not stock.

I took the track bar bolt out and let her drive it. About 35 mph it started a death wobble and I said damn, I got to fix that now :cheesy:

Seriously, this is the agreement. I pay the bills, Im not at a strip club every night, not on drugs. I do what I want to the Jeep. She cant get mad, I pay for her car too :thumb:

That is awesome!

My wife is cool with it and understands that it is my getaway hobby. Any time she questions whether or not we really need something on the Jeep I ask her if we really need 100 pairs of shoes. And now that she has her own Jeep, she understands the sickness.

My jeep technically belongs to my wife. I bought it for her to have as a stock jeep to run around town with about 3 years ago. It has been in my shop for the past 2.5 years. She drives it 1-2 times per year. But she does go wheeling with me. She likes it, but it's an ongoing joke that I keep messing with "her" jeep!IMG_3168.jpg

My wife lets me indulge in my off roading passion to the fullest extent that I wish...and does not care to join me in most of my forays. My passion used to be diving, both scuba & freediving...until several years ago I had a post diving incident that caused me to lose the hearing in my left ear...after weeks of hyperbaric chamber treatments and seeing hearing specialists, I was resigned to the hearing loss...but after a month passed, my hearing came back as miraculously as it disappeared...the experts surmised that I had nerve damage after ten thousand dives, and it could happen again if I dove again...so ended my spear fishing...and turned my full attention to off roading to get my grins & giggles.

My wife only likes going on mild trips camping near scenic rivers or lakes which doesn't require much challenge vehicle wise...but to her credit, she lets me go wherever I want, including running the rubicon last august during our wedding anniversary...without her.

This April I'm driving down to Moab from Seattle...she's flying in to Salt Lake City to spend a couple days on very mild trails, & ill wheel the harder trails without her...

^^^Thats pretty cool man. Glad the hearing came back.
My wife really has the same mentality. She likes scenic trails and camping but not extreme stuff. She's flying out to Moab this year to meet me and run a few trails for a few days. I'll probably talk her into a difficult trail or 2 but she will fight me on it a bit.

Mine let's me indulge without much fuss. She'll roll her eyes now & again but tease me about the continuous shipments and parts that always find their way into the jeep but that's about it really. Now I never complain about the clothing and shoes either so it works out well.
As far as trails go, the road up to Gemeni Bridges in Moab did her in. Totally petrified and that was the end of that. Easy stuff with no ledges/drop offs we're ok. When I show her the Black Bear scene on the Keep It Tight vid she threatens divorce.

On trial is a good way of putting it. I try to not bring it up too often. Definitely need to get her out wheeling, which is one of my 2017 goals.

This is exactly where Im at. She cant see why I got to mess with a perfectly good Jeep. I tried to nrationalize how its ok to mess with the perfectly good house and upgrade floors, kitchen, and bathrooms 😅. (Disclaimer: dont ever bring this up as an excuse. I speak from experience lol). On a good note, she really likes the fact I go out and wheel with the group when time allows and even wanted her own JK. I need to get her out with the group and maybe than she will understand why I want to do the things I do. Until than... The struggle is real 😢

My wife claims that in the last 1.5 years the Jeep has had more birthday gifts than she has I her entire life but is usually laughing when she says it. I have sold her on the Jeep as a means to travel and see more when I retire and we get a motor home which is turning into her addiction

My wife had the biggest grin on her face when we test drove ours. It was suppose to be hers until she got a speeding ticket two weeks in. She call sit my girlfriend. She does help decide on what to do with it. Still trying to talk her into a sport cage and cut flares.

Now that I gave up dirt bikes my wife doesn't worry about me all the time, want to know where I'll be going and about when I will be home. A big weight was lifted off of her shoulders. If I go without her she never worries about me as I am always with another rig.

Over time my wife has been going out with me more and more and she is the one to say "we need this or that!" After leading a few local runs she asked if we could follow our friend Tony, she thought that it might help her to understand what happens to a vehicle when you go thru any sort of obstacle. Well let me tell you that was a very profound day, she understands much more and is getting braver all the time, heck she even did a 6' waterfall and the V-notch in Last Chance Canyon.

Getting your wife involved is a great thing, but when she says "we need those tube doors", priceless! ;)

My wife gets it. She is a jeep girl. The only stipulation is that i dont mess with her jeeps. I think the biggest reason she doesnt bitch is that i dont use my pay check to buy jeep parts. I do mechanic work on the side, and wheel and deal in jeep parts to pay for my rig. The pay check goes to bills and savings. I guess she figures i could be spending my money on hookers and blow, but instead im spending it on gears and axle shafts

Wish I could be as optimistic about the wife situation as you guys. Mine thinks it's all stupid. Hell, I've taken her to some places and tried to break her down, but no bites. No worries, you have to do what makes you happy.

My soon to be wife loves it. It's been an on going joke since we met that she was only with me for my jeep and the trips.
