Just the wife in the vehicle, she is fine. Insurance hasn't appraised it yet, so still waiting for the numbers. I can't imagine that hole is going to be cheap though. Plus any other damage further back on the driveline from the impact and domino effect.

By the way...hit by what? Where was the direct impact? Any more pics?

Another car. She was behind in the right lane, he was in the left. Decided he needed to turn right and cut her off. She turned and hit his fender with the driver side tire. Destroyed the little Dana 30, and the driveshaft pushed up into the engine, where the hole is. Tires are all good though, lol. Those are the only pics so far. I'm mostly worried if they don't total it, and there turns out to be some non-visible damage along the driveline (Transfer case, rear driveshaft, rear axle) seeing how the front driveshaft pushed back hard.

Well glad all is good with your wife. I just got my jeep back about 2 weeks ago from the body shop too. I got tboned on my drivers side. The only real damage was my driver rear axel shaft and wheel barring. Yours on the other hand looks worse then what mine did. Hopefull you get something good out of all this. Good luck

Glad your wife is okay! It looks like it is totaled.I would stay right on top of your insurance and ask right away about removing the extras off the Jeep such as lights etc. My wife had her car totaled and I went to the yard and removed the new stereo I installed. Another time my wife's car was totaled,(see the pattern here? )I bought back the car for pennies, pulled the dent out with my winch, and we drove the car for another 3 years ! Take all you can get and don't settle for a low ball pay out. Make sure of your insurance and see if you have car replacement or what. Good luck.

Definitely going to be pulling stuff if its totaled. That bumper is brand new, and the tires only have about 15k on them. And the CAI. The lift looks done though, so not worried about that. From what I can tell, it will need a new engine block, front axle, front control arms, shocks and coils. Can't tell if anything else is damaged. I'm in the military, and USAA has been great so far. They total it if the repair costs more than the vehicle is worth, so going off KBB, around $25k.

I hope USAA let's you take parts off it. I wrecked a car a while back. Had brand new turbo, injectors, fuel cell, exhaust, dvd/nav, rims and tires...and they wouldn't let me touch it. I could only get my cell phone and loose change out of it. All because they wanted to charge more for me to buy it back. I really hope you get to keep your parts. Sucks man but I'm glad your wife was alright. You can always buy a new jeep.

They will probably not let you take tires, they need a roller. That being said, when I removed the stereo, I had all the time in the world with no one watching.I might be tempted to bring cheap rims and tires to swap. Also shocks and whatever else.

I've been a member of USAA since 1966. They're the best. Period. It's a toss up though if they'll let you strip some of the parts on the vehicle. If you let them total it, legally they own it. If you have receipts for the mods they may consider them. I had a '78 GMC 1/2 ton with a modded 454 stolen in Phoenix many moons ago and USAA reimbursed most of our costs when we came up with receipts and photos. Sorry for the possible loss of your Jeep, but it gave its life to keep you and your wife safe. I see a shiny new Jeep in your future. All the best.:yup:

Turns out, they aren't going to total it, at least off the initial inspection. The hole is in the upper oil pan assembly, not the engine block. Everything else looks to be suspension. The insurance guy seemed kind of out of place though. Didn't notice the hole until I told him about it, and is only estimating suspension damage on the left side, although I'm pretty sure the passenger side control arms looked bent as well. I don't think the axle shaft would be good either. With what they estimated for axle shafts, I might see if I can get a set of Ten Factory shafts, save the insurance some money. Maybe a housing upgrade too, get a Dana 44. I'll have to talk with the mechanic tomorrow though, then we'll see.
