My 3.8 leaks coolant from the intake gasket. It is something common, just keep an eye on it. I am fixing it this month. Because these engines use some oil I always make sure that its full and if yours is an auto i would highly recommend to install an additional radiator to avoid trans overheating.

Caught the Bug
As noted above, aux. transmission cooler is a good idea and cheap insurance to keep your transmission happy. I added one to my 07JKU several years ago and I no longer have transmission overheating issues. Water pump is prone to leaking on the 3.8. I replaced mine at around 40k miles if my memory serves me correctly. This is minor stuff in my opinion. I have about 83K on my JKU and so far it's been a good engine though it's pretty underpowered for a lifted and heavy JKU. I hope to one day swap the 3.8 for an LS. Until then, I'm hoping to get another 80K or so out of it.
