Just wanted to give Jeremy at Disciple Off Road a big thanks for inviting all of us here at WAYALIFE to join him out in Shaver Lake for the 37th Annual High Sierra Poker Run hosted by the California Four Wheel Drive Association. Not only did we have a great time playing on some fun trails with good friends, this was also the first time we've had Moby back on dirt in quite some time. Anyway, the following are a few highlight pics from the trip and I hope you enjoy.

As luck would have it, we got to make our way up and over the hill into California with our good friends Clay and Tracie.

Here's a shot of us making a quick pit stop along the way and to let Ripley burn off some steam.

Man, is it ever good to be back in Moby again!

Before heading up into the mountains, we made a quick stop to quench our thirst - CHEERS!

And now, it's time to head up to Shaver Lake.

Home for the weekend.

But, before calling it a night, it was time for a little fun at the Disciple Off Road Cabin.

CHEERS to a great weekend of fun ahead of us!!

If dogs could drink coffee LOL! Here's shot of Ripley at the crack of dawn on the first day of the High Sierra Poker Run.

Time to air down, lock the hubs and disconnect the sway bar links.

And, that's when our day came to a screeching halt or should I say, a BANG BANG BANGING halt. As luck would have it, the front drive shaft on Clay and Tracie's Jeep decided to separate from the transfer case, just as we started to head out to our trail for the day.
i.php

Not sure what exactly caused it but all the bolts securing the shaft to the output flange backed out and left the shaft to bang up the underside of their Jeep.
i.php

Amazingly enough, we were able to find 3 of the 4 bolts and pretty quicky. Two were laying in the middle of the road and nearby and one was sitting on the transfer case skid plate.
i.php

Unfortunately, we were still missing one and the thread on the remaining bolts were kind of boogered up. Needless to say, I went to work on trying to clean them up while Mike and Robyn went on ahead to see if anyone else in the group had one.
i.php

Although we weren't able to locate another bolt, I was able to clean up the threads and decided to try and get the drive shaft bolted back up using just the 3 we had.
i.php

And, that's when I found that the threads on the output shaft flange were jacked up as well or at least, on two of them. As I tightened up the bolts toward the end, they just slipped past the threads and could never get them fully tight.
i.php

After sending everyone else off to continue the run, we pulled the shaft and drove back in town where as luck would have it, the hardware store in town had metric bolts that could help get Clay and Tracie back in action. In the end, there was enough good thread in 2 of the holes that I could get a solid tightening of them using slightly longer bolts and the other 2 jacked up ones, I was able to use much longer bolts so that they went all the way through and secured them in place with nuts.

Although Clay and Tracie were good to go again, it was too late in the day to try and catch up to everyone and so, we decided to have some lunch and hang out by the lake.

Of course, Ripley had no problems with this.

Once everyone got back in town, it was time to celebrate a great day out on the trail for those who could make the run and a great day for getting Clay and Tracie ready for the following day of fun to come.

WOOHOO!! Did I mention that we all were having a hell of a good time LOL - CHEERS

Day 2 of the High Sierra Poker Run would be a chill one as the Garnett Fire put an end to our run up Swamp Lake. Because of it, we got to enjoy a later start and Ripley was enjoying it.

Time to meet up with everyone in town before hitting the trail.
20250902100136-5d0cd07c.jpg

Fortunately, there are a ton of great trails in the Shaver Lake area and so on this day, we decided to do a run up to Coyote Lake.
20250902125754-5b46ae60.jpg

Obviously, with it being Labor Day Weekend and with the event going on, the trail was PACKED full of rigs and so it was a slow going run but one that we still needed to keep moving on and so, it was tough to get good pics. That said, we tried to get what we could when we could and here are a few you might enjoy seeing.

Oh, and for those of you who haven't figured it out, this is Mike and Robyn's Jeep.

20250902100139-65d7ef59.jpg

As we made our way to Red Lake, we encountered a group coming down the trail and after we pulled over to let them by, I noticed that a few of them 'had' power steps made by AMP and Rock Slide Engineering. I say had because they were either totally destroyed with wiring just dangling from the body or smashed up and inoperable.

Shot looking across Red Lake as we waited for the group ahead of us to clear the Coyote Lake Trail gate keeper.

Time to make our way up the gate keeper and I have to say, it was nice to have Jeremy hoofing it up and down the trail to help spot when and where needed.

Another technical section with all kind of boulders moving under your tires.

20250902100219-e784a0ab.jpg

Not sure what Jeremy and Chad were thinking but they made a really made a herculean effort to move this boulder that rolled out from where it was and now making the obstacle harder. Need I say, they weren't able to move it LOL
20250902100225-c62800a8.jpg

And, it made things for Mike a lot harder.
20250902100231-0c45fca4.jpg

On a total side note, the small lake next to this part of the trail always seems to have some cows in the pasture along its shores and it always makes me wonder, where in the hell did they come from LOL

Poser shot of Moby as we made our way down to Coyote Lake.

For those of you who know the trail, this last obstacle before the lake can be a tough one especially if you slip off your line.

And here we are at long last - Coyote Lake! Crazy how all the smoke from the fire made the day look so late.

Coming back out from the lake, the same big obstacle is just as challenging the other way. Here's a shot of Chad killing it.

The smoke got really thick toward the end of the day and the sun just looked wicked.

Anytime we're off the trail before sundown is a cause for celebration - CHEERS to a hell of a fun day!

And yes, the partying went on and on and on!!

Sadly, all good things must come to an end and with that, I leave you with a parting shot of Bandit and Moby on our way home back to Carson City.

I hope you enjoyed the few highlight pics that we were able to get from the trip. I should also note that Clay has posted up a bunch more on his Retirement Thread and you can see them starting from here:

Great shots and a great time! Thanks for sharing these. And hey, we almost had that rock moved 😂

It was also great seeing Moby back on some dirt. Glad he's working again.
Wish we were able to take more pics but I know we needed to stay on the move. We were able to get some video though and hope to put something together with it.

Super big thanks for getting Moby all fixed up and running like a champ again!

Question relating to Clay's problem with the Banana Split Mobile.

Would it be possible to drill the bolt heads and safety wire them in a Daisy Chain? I know we did it on drag bikes back in the day.
