So apparently the bent tie rod was not my only damage, found this today:

Does anybody know if the the stock diff cover from a TJ d44 will fit the JK d44, it's the rear axle?

Just take it off, hammer it back flat, reseal, reinstall and your good to go.

And grind a little off so there is no lip to catch on anything next time

Yep. That sucks, but it's an easy fix. Or u could upgrade the cover.

I have a spare one laying around and thought it would be easier to replace it if it will fit.

Give it a shot and see if it will fit. Either way you've got to remove the current cover before you pound it back, so you can always check to see if your spare fits then.
