Stubby rear bumper.

wow, that really gives you an idea of how much money the fab companies are making!

Don't forget the fab companies have to pay someone skilled to do that. I'm guessing there is a few hours labor in that. Wonder how much it would cost to build one at $40/hr. :D

Almost done with the shackle mounts. Forgot the shackle bolt so didn't finish the hole. Tomorrow. View attachment 28790 View attachment 28791 View attachment 28792

DAMN BEEFY! Looks great!

Not really since they have to pay for the skilled labor and overhead.

HAHA thats hillarious! I'm all for a company charging out the ass if people are willing to pay for it(im not) but to say that it equates the 1k to 1500 that these companies are charging for bumpers and carriers? :cheesy: If I owned a company and JK'ers were paying me a premium I'd take the my share all the way to the bank as well :yup:

Thanks guys. As for selling them I've thought about making a couple to sell. Not sure if my work would like it much. I've been using some of my spare time here to work on this one. When I'm all done I'll let you know how much I have into the build. I completely understand why things like bumpers and such sell for as much as they do. R&D, tooling, materials, and labor before your first product goes out the door costs a boat load. Oh ya I got reverse light for it today to 1368583688325.jpg

Worked on the bumper some more today. Hope to have it all done by tomorrow. 1368756721474.jpg 1368756750461.jpg 1368756802823.jpg 1368756857496.jpg 1368756894543.jpg 1368756914617.jpg 1368756928808.jpg
The heim joints are 3/4" shank and hole. I used a 7" grade 8 bolt. I used a hard rubber bumper at the top and the bottom that come up tight against the tailgate brace. I can adjust the bumpers and the turnbuckle to pull the tire carrier tight against the tailgate. Still need to fully weld the carrier and install the new reverse lights and remount my cb antenna.

They are really bright and only draw 4w. They are very compact. Think I'm gonna like them

Interesting hinge on the tire carrier, curious to how it holds up. Not trying to knock it, just doesn't look as beefy as others in the pic, could just be the photo. Awesome setup you built nonetheless, I'd run it.

Ya I saw a Google pic of one set up like that and thought I'd try it. May gave to change it up for a spindle mount. I just like how I can adjust for sag from the tire weight
