Bartact Velcro is awesome. Complete coverage no gaps on the sides like the tops with the bungies. You could fold it back too if you want. I love it in the summer as you get the open air feel but are far cooler than baking in the sun. I was amazed by the temperature difference. My wife loves it because she is a red head and doesn't have to worry about burning. As for water proof it won't keep you perfectly dry but it will stop you from getting soaked. It takes a heavy rain to a light mist.
