The building of Bison

Ughh, well I have another project I didn’t want to have to tackle. I decided to check and see if the dreaded oil cooler decided to leak at 80k and yup, there’s a puddle of oil down there.

So I’ll be ordering a new cooler this evening and have another project to tackle. Anything else I should did into while I have it opened up?

I refuse to have anymore projects on the Jeep
Right now. I dropped it off today and as far as I’m concerned it is perfect. Lol

I get it. I don’t think it’s an urgent project, but I’m going to assemble all the parts and try to tackle it while we are all shut down.

Smart. I will probably take a peak myself when I get mine back. First up though is suspension choices and front seats.

I personally would do the spark plugs while I had the intake manifold off. Best of luck and your Jeep looks amazing!!

Tell me about it!! I remember mine blowing up while staying at my sister in law's house. I barely made it to the dealership...

Mines not to the point of blowing up I hope, but it is leaking oil onto the top of the block.

We escaped quarantine today for a run up to St Helen ORV trails. It’s about a 2.5 hours north of my so we decided to drive it verses trailering it (Also because it would have been a bit more obvious with a Jeep up on a gooseneck that we weren’t just going for a hike in the woods). About an hour north, Coles & Jamie’s Orange LJs main seal below on an up hill climb on the highway. We all pulled off at the next exit and called a tow truck and His wife came and picked them up. Once we had them sorted, we headed north and got up there around 11.

I’ve never been there, but most of the trails are sand with some banked turns and a few whoops and ruts. We had some fun on some hill climbs and found the rock area.

Heather did a great job driving it up the ledges.

We hit a few more trails, had a late lunch then headed back home. It was a great shake down run, other than the LJ issue.

Being a shake down run, I learned and found a number of things that needed to be adjusted.

The rear axle needs to go back about 1”. It’s rubbing bad on the Rock Hard Rails.

The rear track bar keeps smacking my exhaust, so I’m going to need to go to a pre axle dump instead of it extending to the rear bumper.

My right rear speed sensor is interment, it failed about 5 minutes in and could not fix it on the trail. I’ll dig into it in the garage, but I had to suffer not using cruise control the whole way home. First world problems.

The front tires are still rubbing at full flex and the passenger sway bar link needs to be resolved. I’ve a couple run marks on the drag link adjuster that looks like it is touching the ram tie rod mount bolt when it is flexed.

The best one was having my dash light up and my speedometer go crazy. After a couple minutes of wishing I would have brought the trailer up, I checked the battery cables, and sure enough, it was almost completely off the post. At least that was an easy fix.

It was a great first run. With those sand trails, I really wanted to go faster, but with the clearance issues, I couldn’t. Maybe with some king bumps it would’ve handled it a bit better but I definitely need some upgrades there.
