Welcome from Waxhaw! As far as places to wheel, Uwharrie is at the top of the list but check out Brown Mountain (west of Lenoir) and Gulches off road park (south of Spartanburg, SC). I really liked Brown Mountain but it’s really just one trail for Jeeps. There is another called The Flats which I believe is near Morganton and more of a park, but haven’t gone there yet. Uwharrie definitely has the most variety and is closer of all the above I mentioned to Charlotte.
