Went camping Friday and Saturday night, and spent Saturday wheeling on the McGraw Trail on Mt Sumter on the Southern Oregon/Northern California Border. 1st time playing on the rocks with a basically stock 09 JKU. Didn't get any pics of my climbing on the rocks or getting High Centered .The best part of the trip, was when we were half way through the trail my wife look at me, an said we are turning your Jeep into a Rock Crawler. SWEET!!! Bundy offroad park trip with the kiddos. Being 30 minutes from home is always nice. IMG_0783.jpg IMG_0784.jpg IMG_0788.jpg IMG_0785.jpg IMG_0786.jpg IMG_0787.jpg

Is that McGraw or Mcgrew trail out of O’brian, OR?Thought Mcgrew had been closed indefinitely? Had read that elsewhere last year.

Looks like McGrew. It is still open but requires a permit for a group and then you will have to pick up a key to the gate. The “fire road” is open but bypasses the first half of the trail. Most groups lately are just using the fire road and out to camp.

Took a cruise through part of Mana road and back. This is one of my favorite drives on the island as far as scenery and just getting away from everything goes. It’s an old ranch road that is now owned by the state. From what I understand the ranch is no longer privately managed. A significant amount of cattle was left behind and are frequently “hunted” right off the side of this road. Sometimes the road gets bad to the point where I wouldn’t attempt it alone, especially after a big rain storm. However, the state frequently grades it to keep it manageable and maintain access to forest reserves and hunting areas.

Here you can see the shadow of Mauna Kea being cast on the clouds as the sun sets behind it.

An owl flew along side the Jeep for a few minutes and landed on a rock just off the road.

....aaand some cattle on the way out.
