Houston Area Wayalife-ers!

Caught the Bug
I can't help in the welding department but I can lend a hand and bring some tools. (Near 249/1960 FYI) I am planning to add a couple Protek skids and a CB in a couple weeks. Sat March 7th...the wife is gonna be gone all day so I figured I would get a couple things done.

I have the tools needed to get the job done, aside from flame cutting the welds to remove the factory mount bracket. But I would be down for a wrench party just because :thumb: I cant Promise a date yet, it all really depends on when LoD gets my bumper out the door.

Anyone have the ability/tools/mobility to cut welds? I'm about 3 weeks out from needing to relocate my vacuum pump mounting bracket, and rather than cutting the plate, grinding it down, and painting it, I would really like to properly remove the factory mount entirely for a nice, CLEAN install. I can provide beer/food/cash/ or IOU wrench hands. I am in North west houston, just outside of the 610 loop. If it comes down to a sawzall, I'll go that route, but really looking for something better if possible. Thanks in advance!

I have a cutting torch if you wanna go that route. I don't torch other people's jeeps but I will provide one.

Sounds good to me. Txwest may be down. He's my buddy and normally helps with Jeep stuff. :yup:

March 7th if you can swing it just because I will be free all day through the evening. Hopefully I will order my stuff next Monday in time for the 7th. I'll bring some .

FNG in The Woodlands

Hi everyone,
I'm James, from The Woodlands. I'm a newbie to Jeeping. I have a 2012 JK unlimited, and my "Project TJ" 2001 wrangler. Both are stock, except my TJ has a winch. I would like to meet up with some Houston "Jeepers".

I would be hesitant to take you up on the tool loan as I haven't done ANY type of fab work since Ag-Mech back in high school (nearly 10 years ago) :naw: Im definately looking for someone who is good and confident with removing the welds, With out a doubt... otherwise, like I said, I'll just take a sawzall too it, because I know exactly what I'm doing at that point. :cheesy:

Just being curious, as I don't have a JKU to walk out and look at, where/what are the welds and how much torching will it take?

Here is a stolen photo of the bracket in question, (the one with the vacuum pump attached to it ;)

As for how much torching, I honestly cant say, I have never seen it in person and everyone I know, or read about just cuts the bracket with sawzall, but I have always been a big "above and beyond" kind of guy when it comes to my vehicles, and I just don't like the idea of cutting off half of the bracket and leaving the other half attached and useless. Its my first jeep, so maybe I just need to get over it. But Ideally, I would like someone to help me remove the entire bracket properly

I used a Dremel. It cut really clean and very close to the frame. I covered it with black paint. It looks good, especially covered by the new bumper.

I cut mine with grinder and cutting wheel, fast and easy.....wasn't worried about removing welds as you won't see it anyway with bumper in place

Hey everyone! Just thought that there are enough of Wayalife-ers in the Houston area that having our own thread would be justified!

There has been some chatter about doing some local meet-and-greets and I've been asked if we ever do any wheeling trips.

We can organize the meet-and-greets here or just BS about what's happening in Houston and there's NO reason for a local guy or gal, newbie or experienced, to have to go out wheeling alone and end up broken and stuck out on a trail by themselves!

If you are local here to the Houston area, please chime in and I'll add your screen name to the list of local Houstonians!

No worries, it all worked out in the end. I was going to get the rear anyways.

No I joined before we met. But I did notice it, I need to order some.

Dang man...that looks good!

I have to get some more WAL decals too...just wanna plan it where I don't have to take them off later because of armor or something else ie rear quarter panel.
