Texas Barnwell Run & Campout(May 21st-22nd)

Adding this list from last year's Newbie run thanks to George(iRonin)

This is a great list for the newbies to go by.

[*]18/19mm ratchet/socket and wrench: Useful for connecting/disconnecting your sway bar if you don't have quick-disconnects or don't have a Rubicon. I will have tools as well as a backup but it would speed things up if folks had their own. (A 19mm is a good socket to have anyways because it doubles as the size you use in conjunction with your wheel lock for changing tires)

[*]Zip ties - 40-50lbs+ is good but the more important part is getting ones that are a little longer (6"+) - also directly related to the sway bars for tucking them away after we disconnect, but useful in may other ways on the trail :)

[*]Trash bags - Some folks have the ones that hang off the rear spare tire; I just bring a regular black garbage bag to collect trash and cinch it up with a bungee

[*]Handy Wipes - These are amazing for Hidden Falls given the high dust content.

[*]Jugs-o-Water - This is beyond your basic drinking water. I always try to bring a couple cheap gallons (I get the ones with the plastic spouts) for rinsing hands, sunglasses, etc.

[*]Tire gauge w/deflator - If your Jeep doesn't have the TPMS feature that will tell you the current tire pressure, you'll want to pick up a decent analog one. I recommend one like the ARB that has a built-in deflator button which makes it easy to air down. Again, I'm sure we'll have a few there to pass around, but it will speed things up and they are a must-have piece of gear for day-to-day living with a Jeep :)

[*]Shade - Folks that are planning on going topless should really consider getting some kind of overhead shade (spiderwebshade, etc) - it may not feel bad driving around town with the top off but at hidden falls with this hot weather that sun will absolutely cook down on you and yours, especially if we're running mostly trails that avoid trees

[*]Bandana/Schampa - If you're running no doors and are sensitive to the dust, these help as a quick pull-up for easy breathing.

Thanks for the checklist!

I do have a Rubi, but I might go ahead and disconnect anyhow so I don't have to stay in 4wd the entire time if I don't need to.

Great list, I would also add (a few may be obvious)

  • Comfortable CLOSE TOE shoes with good "traction" (you WILL be in AND out of your jeep ALL day long, My fiance was infamous for wearing TOMs on the trail, She would slip and fall time after time, multiple times a day. Do NOT take your footwear decision lightly, and explain/insist your Significant other/children do the same)
  • Hat (Nice to have for portable face/neck shade)
  • Sunscreen (you WILL be in AND out of your jeep ALL day long)
  • Handy wipes (AGAIN; BRING THEM)
  • Glass wipes (I prefer Invisible Glass, you can pick it up at walmart/auto stores and it works GREAT)
  • Firewood (while not necessary for every jeep to bring, Its always better to have more than none)

That is pretty much the essentials; We as always, will be bringing our signature camping s'more fixins for the campfire... and who knows... maybe SOMEONE will show up with a bottle of American Honey ;)

its no problem to leave the jeep in 4hi. the ISSUE is the swaybar automatically re-engages at 18mph... not that I would RECOMMEND you disobey the posted speed limit inside the park... if you are seen speeding by a park ranger, you WILL be escorted out of the park with no refund. They dont play nice.

I already wrote "booze" on the bottom of my trip checklist :brows:

I have no plans of going that fast

This is more in reference to the main park roads. They are basically smooth, dirt roads, and going 10mph is nearly painful.:yawn37: you will never reach close to that on the actual rated trails...

Sounds like some intense trail action for my baby rig ;)

And I'll do my best to bring American Honey and some of those disposable shot glasses

Thanks for adding to the list :)

The good thing about Barnwell is that it is 10 minutes away from town. If you forget something a Walmart is just 7 minutes away. If you need more beer or wine its available. Hard liquor you have to drive 20 minutes out of town to purchase. If you don't feel like packing food for lunch or dinner, lots of places to eat in town.

I was just there this weekend and its not too muddy nor too dusty. Trails are maintained since they have a big event starting on April 20th to 24th that will have the park close for a private off road gathering.

Please out me on the maybe list. I am hoping to be there, but depends upon how well it does at Windrock the weekend before.

Well, due to a newly announced change in schedule rotation, I am no longer just scheduled off Fri/Sat/Sun that weekend.

I will be going, just taking vacation days as needed.

So, for the Houston folks let's take a poll as to who wants to leave when (Fri evening/Sat morning)

Either one is fine with me, just need to get on making plans.

Work schedule changes suck, stoked that you're still planning on attending though. Thank you guys for putting together a convoy for the Houston guys!

Sure do, but we do say that AT&T stands for At This Time. So it will probably change again before then, lol.

But then again, I only work 4 days a week...from home. I'm sure there are worse gigs out there

Just skimming back through, this is a list of all the Houstonians planning on making this run. If everybody wants to chime in on their availability, or preference I can mark it down. Figured this might be helpful for those who are making lodging arrangements (especially for Friday if we come up early)

Texas Nick - Up for whateva!
DWiggles - Friday evening or Saturday morning (potentially camping both nights)
Daverawr - Early Saturday
Tdougherty81 - Coming up Saturday morning, unless work schedule changes
Packers937
Hobolobo
Lukasd
Romac2223 - Friday Evening (booking a room)
BobbyGTX
Kyle7R
cjmenma - Friday Evening (camping)

Did I miss anybody?

:Edit: - Forgot Myself...ha.

Change me over to going, my lift will be installed next week so I'll need to test out the handling.
