That's pretty much where my G19 sits. I've been toying with the idea of getting an additional INCOG holster and reversing the belt loops in order to interface with the MOLLE strips.

Nice, I like that he actually takes into account things like laser sights and flashlights for the right fit.
I also like the pic of a gun on the side of a cooler. Never know when your family bbq gonna get broken up by some thugs.

I like the idea but don't think I would trust the suction cups with my 500 magnum. I may do some research on that though.

Shoot 2Aholsters an email and ask. I know he has made other holsters for 500 magnums, so I am sure he can tell you if it would work or not.
Besides, if you are in an area where you feel you need a 500 magnum, better make sure you have a hard top, keep the doors locked,a nd do not have peanut butter or bacon breath - them bears get hungry. :shock::yup:

I carry a Glock 20, 10mm, for my wilderness gun. 15 + 1 rounds. Figure can get off more accurate hits, in rapid succession, that with a revolver. Never been a good shot with the heavy magnums. Of course, in process of looking for a new 45-70 (Henry?) or getting a 14" barrel Wilson Combat shotgun (and load with slugs and 00 Buck). Used a .375 H&H for hunting in Africa, but just has become too much for my aging body.

Yeah, I pretty much use it for backpacking because there is a lot of moose and I go far off the trail usually. They are aggressive when they have young with them. I've kind of adopted it as my mountain gun now even in the Jeep. As far as the grill guard, it's a generic one, a deer would probably bend it, lol. It's better than nothing I guess. The center part is sturdy, but edges are weak.

This may be off-topic, but I've been thinking about a truck gun for some time and have narrowed it down to 2 possibilities. I haven't owned a gun in quite some time, and they were all long guns for hunting when I lived on the mainland before moving to Hawaii.
After spending a lot of time alone in the woods last summer driving up through central Oregon & WA from CA looking for trout streams while off-roading, and seeing fresh bear shit frequently...it occurred to me that a truck gun might be in order...not to mention if I broke down in the middle of no where, it might be useful if one ran out of food...and I will be doing an epic long distance trip from Seattle through ID, MT, WY, CO, UT & OR this upcoming summer with my trailer of about 5 weeks...
First priority is self defense against animals, mostly bears & mountain lions...secondly, the wrong type of people...and thirdly, a means to provide food. I've narrowed it down to a .45 handgun or a 20 ga slug gun. a .45 is easier to carry & conceal...but a 20 ga rifled slug would deter just about anything, and could kill deer etc for food...throw in some #6's, and birds & small game are in the mix...
Will also have to secure the gun in the Brute to prevent theft as well...
What are you're thoughts on this?

I had a Serpa paddle holster I didn't really like, but I found that it slipped right over the plastic piece under the steering wheel and locks in place using the hook on the back of the paddle. The Serpa has a trigger guard lock that I didn't like for tactical pistol competitions, which is why it was sitting on the shelf. The trigger lock is easy to depress to remove the 3 inch STI 1911, and holds it secure during travel. I cut a small piece of black cloth and placed between the holster and jeep plastic so things didn't get all scratched, but after a year, I don't think it's really necessary. The holster is adjustable for cant, so I was able to adjust so the weapon is easy to put in place and remove while seated in a normal position with the steering wheel in the down position.

You're not going to bring a shotgun on a hike but it'll be drastically better at taking down game. The only thing you'll get close enough to kill with a handgun will be a squirrel which is hard to hit and won't be anything left after a 45 goes thru it.
I think he need to narrow down what you really want it for.

At 6.75 lbs, not too bad slinging it on the back for fishing...I'm not into long distance hiking anymore; besides, I'm more familiar with shotguns...

Then I say go with the shotgun and buy a can of bear spray for when you don't want to haul that with you. Some would argue that's more effective than a gun anyways so you should be covered.

Pertaining to my experience only here in CO. With many overnights deep in the backcountry, I have not ACTUALLY had a confrontational situation with any predators, luckily. However, I have seen more than enough fresh moose and bear tracks/scat around my tent. Here is the knowledge of my area though, lol. I do tie my food up at night and away from camp.
Mountain Lion-highly elusive, but if one gets you, they will ambush you and you won't see it coming, knife or stick better than a gun in most situations. News stories with witnesses present usually say ambush attack from behind for mountain lions (unless protecting a kill).
Bear-(luckily only black bear here in CO)-will fuck your shit up when you have food with you, tent/car/etc. Normally when confronted by a human that they didn't expect, they take off, Friends/Family with multiple personal stories on that. However, if you're sleeping and one tries to get in your tent, a gun would be a great tool to have.
Moose-Extremely aggressive especially around their young. Will stand ground and attack. BIGGER than black bear or mountain lion. They are very use to people around here and don't give a shit.
Wolves-Wolf sightings are increasing here. A personal friend of mine was surrounded by a pack two years ago. The wolves were coming after her dogs. I think a gun would certainly help here. They weren't moving fast, but were closing in and howling crazy.
A perfect gun for what you want may be a Taurus Judge.

That's an interesting choice...I wonder what the recoil is firing a .410 shell from a handgun (or .45 Long Colt for that matter)...
I've only had a couple encounters with predatory animals while fishing and not being armed...a fairly large grizzly in Alaska while catching dolly vardens (my companion did have a .44 mag on his chest) and a pissed off lynx in northern Vermont many years ago....and a fisher cat that jumped over my shoulder when I went to fetch a couple more logs for the fire (also in Vermont)...
While I was wheeling above Lone Pine CA near Sanger Meadows last summer, we saw what I believed to be a vary large coyote eating something in an alpine meadow (10k ft elev)...my friend had a good set of binoc's, and was convinced it was a wolf...he's been wheeling there for many years, and thought it was too large to be a coyote.
When in bear country, especially when there is fresh tracks & poop, I usually revert to loud renditions of Pink Floyd tunes so as not to surprise any bears while coming around the bend of a stream...but I think I'd feel better with a shotgun slung on my back as well...
