I don't know why either, but the gears themselves are specifically marked rubicon which tells me it's a carrier thing.

The rubi carrier has more splines then a standard JK d44 rear end and the one side shaft is longer then the other compared to the normal jk d44 being same on both sides.

I knew the shafts were different lengths but didn't think it was relevant to the gears themselves. So I guess maybe the carriers might have a different bolt pattern.

I cant say for sure whether it is or not. I would think that it is the same though, but I guess everything else is different it is a possibility.

I mean, surely if im getting a new front axle (pr44 hopefully) and a locker for my rear 44, i can order so that it works with those ring gears....i hope lol

You could always get a rubi e locker or a rubi replacement and then get a set of rubi shafts if there is a difference.

Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure the locker is the carrier and that would be the difference. So if a factory locker will work in your rear D44, just go that route. For some reason used factory rear lockers are more commonly for sale than front ones, at least that's what I've run into in my search for a replacement for my front.

My plan was for an eaton elocker. But just for giggles, would that arb go in my non-rubi 44 housing?
If you had the rubi shafts since they are different splines and different lengths then I do see why it wouldnt. Im sure there are some out there that could confirm that true or not.
