To tint or not to tint

20% all the way around. Nothing on the front though. Putting that over the factory makes the back darker so it's even harder to see in. At the time I did my hard top windows too. In the pic, you can see it also goes well with the soft top tint. [emoji41]

I've haven't ever tinted but this got me thinking about matching my front and rear, so a couple of questions...

How hard is it to remove the tint if you don't like it?
How durable is the tint, do they start peeling off after a while?

It's time consuming to remove tint as it likely won't come off in one piece. After that you have to remove the glue which goo gone and a razor blade makes it quick work. It's durable as long as you use quality film and the installation was good work.

For some reason my factory back windows and top was not tinted. I did 20% all the any other than the front window since it likes to crack all the time. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1454881097.778495.jpg

Go for a good quality ceramic film. Stay away from film made from metallics. (hinders GPS signals, etc) You can find a reputable shop that will back their tint install from peeling, bubbling, etc. I ended up going with 30% FormulaOne series by Llumar. Really impressed with it so far.

<img src="http://wayalife.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=186271"/> I like it on my daily driver. I don't think its such a great idea on a rig that sees wheeling at night .

Man, that's a great looking Jeep! I'm not normally a fan of body color fenders and tops, but this is nice

In addition to the aesthetic qualities of adding some tint, there are some functional reasons as well. A quality tint will also protect the interior from sun fading, cracking, etc. So definitely tint, and from an aesthetic perspective I would match the tint, BUT I would either tint over the factory tint (as mentioned it has shitty UV protection) with a good quality non-metallic tint or if you want to spend the extra cash have them remove the factory tint and put new on

Just remember that factory tint doesn't have any UV blocking qualities like aftermarket tint. Something to think about if you're hauling the kiddos around.

Are you 100% sure about this? I don't know about jeep but the privacy glass used by Ford Australia has a UV rating equal to any aftermarket tint. I would think most most manufacturers would be the same.

Had a previous car with darker tint on the front windows....it was maybe a little too much at night, made it difficult to see out of.

Question for you guys.....are US spec JK's not tinted on the front side glass at all? My export spec Sahara (Australia) has factory tinted front glass...not as dark as the back, but there is certainly some tint to it....even the windscreen is tinted.

Depending on the state that the person is located in, its illegal to tint the front windows. Or you can only legally go as dark as 35%. To mitigate legality concerns the Dealer/Manufacture just doesn't tint the front.

Believe this has been mentioned before, depends on the product. Removing it is easier said the done... Mine has some scratching in it, but that's because whoever installed it screwed up the inner mold and folded it down/under so when my windows are down the little derbies gets stuck between the window and the mold and scratch it. If you're not careful removing your seat belt, it will drink/damage the tint as well if it hits hard enough.

No tint! Had 5% all around on the last Jeep. Couldn't see a thing at night. Especially off-road.

5% is really dark, had you gone with a lighter tint say 20-35% you might have a different opinion. I don't off-road at night, or if I do it's just a forest service road nothing serious.

I have 20% on the front windows and it matches the back perfectly. The shop I went to a actually didn't have enough of the film I chose so upgraded me to the highest quality film at no extra charge. Also keep in mind it seems most jeeps have something inside the door that rubs the window. It'll eventually wear a hole in the film. Both my fronts have it and our old work JK had them too. I believe there is a thread on that and how to fix it. Also the shop I used charges $50 to remove the film in the event you need to remove it but will credit you that back towards re-tinting them.

Lol. That's funny about the hole in the film. Mine have it too on both sides. Maybe the seat belt?? Too late now to prevent it for me, but interesting.

No I thought it was too but its in the same spot on both doors. Then I read somewhere on here that there is something inside the door. I believe someone even took it to the dealership and complained about it and the fixed it and re-tinted them for no charge. I'd bet that was luck as I'm assuming most dealers would blame it on being "heavily modified"...haha.

I've noticed my front windows getting a very fine line work on them from putting the windows up and down. Very faint right now on my 3M carbon tint.

Getting tint put on the front to match is definitely on my list - in addition to looks, it really helps in the summer time to keep things a little cooler.

Without a doubt match the front to the rear. Mine had the windows done before I had 100 miles on it. No problems seeing at night.

I got a 15% on the front two and a 20% on the back and they look matched, although I know just the 15% would have been fine just for the front. Also did a 5% brow.
