Hello all! I just wanted some support on my latest two mistakes that both happend in the last week. Please feel free to post similar accidents of just make fun of me. I have managed to dent both driver and passenger side cowl panels. Yes, I think I am an idiot. Yes, I know they make the door limit straps for a reason. Yes, I know they make Cowl armor.. and are they worth the money?...in my case...yes. Pure stupidity. Please let me know I am not the only one to do this...Tell your stories or let's make fun of each other.:banghead:

Many of us have done the dimple mod...it's almost a right of passage.

09-11-2012, 01:44 AM
I thought I had avoided it and now have modded both sides.....

I brought my brand new JK home on a Saturday about 2:00 pm, by 4:00 pm I had "the dent" on the drivers side.

I got it out almost completely by pushing on it with a piece of steel bar from behind. Now it has a little sticker covering what's left.

Almost gone.

That makes them more aero dynamic and better on fuel, at least that's what I hear :)(:

There are professional dent pop guys out there that can get these out for well under a $100.

If you think it is worth it then just google pop a dent in you area and I bet you will find a ton of them.

You will never know it was ever there, I have seen some of these guys do amazing things.

I modded mine with the simple dimple mod, added 15% hp and increased my mpg
Don't let it bother you, there's way worst that's gonna happen on the trail

LOL!! way funny thread :cheesy:

it's not if you ding, it's when

10-20-2012, 07:39 AM
I tried the hair dryer/ice cube fix and had total failure. It's sad when you know exactly how it will happen and still can't manage to avoid it.

well I thing this is just showing who is really using the full way of life potential of their jeeps  When I see a jk with both intact cowl panel, I know he never removed the doors :icon_crazy:

Lol, same story on mine... driver side, took off the limit strap ... 10 min later bang :D

I'got everyone around (non JKers) asking.. how could you dent it there... at first i was explaining, now its simple - Just get a JK and you know it soon :icon_crazy:

Yup I did it within the hour that I bought mine. First mod was this dent at 29 miles. :clap2:

11-21-2012, 08:02 PM
did mine awhile back! within the first year!

11-24-2012, 06:32 PM
Did mine on pass. side when it was new also , It would have been pretty easy to put a catch on the part that holds the strap from the factory.

Has anyone seen or tried the "Improved" door replacement straps from Star Fabricating? If so, what are your thoughts?

03-23-2014, 09:12 PM
Mine happened at 500 miles.... I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out what kind of impact makes that shape until I realized...... Welp I guess its time to join the club I guess

03-23-2014, 10:03 PM
I dont have pictures of mine I may take some soon... but they are band... I was taking the doors off and the wind just BLEW them right open now I have HUGE dimples its sad :sigh: Did it within a couple months of owning the Jeep.

03-23-2014, 10:39 PM
I actually never let the front doors swing into the cowl...but once a gust of wind blew my hood off the prop and it slammed into the windshield...it left a nice, long, straight line dent across my hood

03-23-2014, 11:15 PM
strap ripped on mine during windy weather

05-26-2014, 02:27 AM
This almost a 2 year thread resurrection, they actually sell inexpensive jk cowl armor if to feel it to be necessary or there are videos on how to pop a dent by freezing the dent and then heating it with a heat gun.

Mine happened first week I had my Jeep.. I just added an American flag there so its not so noticeable

05-26-2014, 02:48 AM
My wife modded her side first, no shits were given

05-26-2014, 02:49 AM
My wife and I spent 2 days trying to figure out who could hit the jeep that high up. Then sudden duh moment.

05-26-2014, 03:04 AM
I have a driver side one, kind of forget about it...

05-26-2014, 05:04 AM
Here's mine..

I say the factory should just take care of this on the assembly line!!! :cheesy: kinda like a final inspection

05-26-2014, 08:02 PM
Still no dents in mine yet. Knock on wood

Still no dents in mine yet. Knock on wood

Same here. I go on and off a lot too these days due to my daughter. Double knock on wood.

Any one tried getting a dent out of the "top" pillar above the windshield?

If you take a piece of 2x3 about 3 ft long you can run it along the fender from the hood and gently press it out. If is creased you will not get the crease out but can make the dent smalled. My wife did this to a friends Jeep this weekend and came out pretty good. Yes my wife did it not I.

I proudly display mine, yup.

Why do you think Golf balls have dimples in them? aero dynamics! dimples on cowls add at least 10 hp and 1 mpg!!
