Fishbone Offroad

In my opinion. And it’s only my opinion. It’s ignorant for any of us to sugarcoat a company product based truly on the fact that they are a supporting vendor. If Fishbone was NOT a forum vendor, it’s almost certain they’d be flamed on here immediately because of their rebranded Chinese parts business. I’m just telling it exactly how I see it.

They are NOT a vendor on here any longer!

Oh my!

Absolutely, and don't think for a minute that my son (or any of my kids) doesn't work hard. My soon to be 16 year old maintains a 3.95 GPA in honors classes at a very demanding school while concurrently excelling at multiple competitive varsity sports. Seriously, he puts in 14+ hour days and works harder than 95% of the adults I know.

The deal in my house is that school is work. If they perform at the highest level, there are some benefits (one of which is not having to also work a full-time job); if they slack off in school, off to work they go to pay for their own vehicle, insurance, gas, etc.

I worked 40+ hours a week during my junior and senior years of high school. It sucked, and it definitely had an impact on my academics.

Amen to that. Sounds similar to conversations and understandings with my own kids.

Well done to the sharkey fam for creating a positive environment to excel. [emoji106] That alone isn’t easy these days.

We’re talking Jeep parts. Strictly Jeep parts. I don’t want Jeep body armor made in China as my last line of defense before smacking a rock.

Personal electronics, clothes, household appliances, etc...of course we all own foreign manufactured products. But that’s not the point here?

Got it. Buy American!*

*Jeep parts only. Other consumer goods can be made by child/slave labor in deplorable conditions. Fuck ya 'merica!

LOL!

Lol. It’s all relative I guess. It’s a nice first ride for sure but it is far from the nicest vehicle in the parking lot at his school.

No kidding. I saw some kid driving a 911 turbo last time I was in that parking lot. You better up your game. I mean the Jeep itself is okay, but Fishbone parts? Hell, I heard they weren't even a vendor here anymore.

Though it's not my exact vehicle here is my first car. 1989 Plymouth Acclaim given to me by my grandma at 17 (1998) with just about 53k on the odo. Yes it was given to me but I was responsible for car insurance, gas, and maintenance, no help from mom. I spent the first day home with it driving to multiple places turning in job apps. By the time I got home the last place I applied to, Abby's, called and offered me a job. Honestly without that car I'm not sure how things would have transpired in my life. I was and am still greatful for her generosity.

With regards to Chinese manufacturing there are reputable companies outsourcing their manufacturing to be able to provide better prices for us. They have higher QC and are more hands on to try and be as responsible as possible. Warn and Klean Kanteen come to mind. Yes there are shady companies stealing designs and making knock offs. Do your research and select companies which operate with similar to your values. It's like religion, there is no one size fits all. If that were the case there would be no USA and we'd achieve "world peace".

Wow! Just curious if it was something unethical like what happened with SPODS, or Northridge4x4, etc?

Nothing as dramatic as that. Vendors come and vendors go all the time. Havoc is one that comes to mind but for some reason, nobody noticed them being gone. Spod was NEVER an advertiser, they were just an undercover pimp of who I caught red handed. I wouldn't allow them to be on here regardless of how much they were willing to pay.

If you have the finances to give your children everything, that's great for you. I hope you&they are smart enough to realize that not everyone is so lucky and that alone doesn't make you/them any better than anyone else. Hard work, dedication and determination is what it takes.

Lol. So many assumptions.

My dad put himself through Stanford. He had/has a great job and did pretty well. Nonetheless, he still works 5-6 days a week at 83 years old instead of wandering around society as a retiree who adds zero value to the world. I have two brothers, one is a doctor and the other is a teacher with a master's degree in biology; I'm an attorney. I got my first real job running a hot dog stand and bussing tables at 13. My next job (at 15) was working in the Circus Circus Midway which, if you have ever been there, you know is probably the worst place on earth (especially back when smoking was allowed.) I have had many jobs before becoming an attorney, including working as a laborer and ultimately a carpenter. Pretty sure there has been plenty of hard work, dedication and determination across the board in my family...luck had nothing to do with it.

The absence or presence of a work ethic, or of elitism, is not dictated by whether a kid works to buy a hooptie or gets a decent ride from their parents...it is dictated by the morals by which the parents live and by extension instill into the children.

Not my problem, can't see it from my house...

Frankly, I do not lose sleep over these things either, in fact, I make sure to invest plenty in foreign and emerging markets. I just get a chuckle out of the hypocrisy of some/many.

That answers the OP.

Idk. I see a lot of people recommending American Made stuff here, when they know it to be better. I doubt anyone here, doesn’t have something Chinese on their Jeep.

Look back at http://project-jk.com/ and you’ll see lots of different manufacturers were run, and not all of the stuff was Made in the USA.

This thread took a damned ridiculous turn.

Not taking anything away from you hard work, but just being born in America means you are luckier than most on the planet.

I disagree. "Luck" presumes the presence of chance. It is not chance that I was born to my parents. There is no possible genetic way that I could have been born to anyone else since I am a combination of their genes. If I was born to someone else I would not be me. Does your mind hurt yet? :bleh:
