Fine dust in air intake tube

I'm curious if there is a JL on a JK airbox mod. That air filter seems to be much more affective.

Not sure if you could do it but really, all the JK needs is a filter that's made in the same way - more of a paper like element with deep pleats lots of them.

Wonder if it would be easy to find a boot or coupler that could connect the JL box to the JK inlet tube.

I have a feeling the bigger problem would be whether or not the air box would fit in the JK and if so, how would it be secured it in place. Being that they both (or at least newer JK's) have 3.6L, I would bet the air tubes are more or less the same or at least, very similar.

This is what I was thinking. I'd be curious if it's done if it'll throw a CEL.
At the back of the pack there were places where the dust was so thick visibility was maybe 10 yards at best, for miles at a time.
Resulting in this...haha.

There are a couple OEM JL boxes on Ebay right now... $175.
Could be worth a look.

Was thinking of starting a thread for this. Let this be a reminder to double check your dealerships work...

Here you can see they attempted to half ass clean the entry port to the air box. I guess that qualifies for a air intake cleaning service. lol

Still waiting for a response from the service manager.....

You should start a thread for this. I should have learned years ago, but both Jeeps of ours still have shit that needs to be re-fixed even after work done by dealers and "trusted" shops.

This is all they are cleaning in that intake service. They scrub the throttle body plate and the throttle body opening and then dump a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank.

Yea it’s unfortunate that these guys are so pressured to beat the book time and cut corners.

How did you get pics of my intake..haha.

This is one reason I just prefer to do all my own maintenance and any repairs. I'm ASE certified through YouTube...haha.

Believe me. Same here. I like to do all my own work and services. I was trying to keep the relationship with this dealership going as I plan on buying a JL or JT within a year.

Has anyone tried using the “pre-filter” material like this on the factory JK intake? Maybe attach it with a bungee of some sort?

I have a k&n one on my WJ and have used one on other street cars with open aftermarket filters. It definitely works. You can visually see the dirt and grime stuck to it compared to the filter itself. It's much finer mesh than the metal screen on the filter media.
