Been going with non wines lately (anyone tried meads?).

But tonight enjoyed a nice pasta dinner with herbs my daughter grew paired with a nice Pinot.

Been going with non wines lately (anyone tried meads?).

Tried a couple at a beer tasting last year. Both were sweet and not dry, so I wasn’t impressed. I would try again with the hopes of finding that well balanced, dry glass. Then again, why not just have wine??

Hard to beat fresh herbs. She’s got a variety of Italian herbs along with some others (mint was a solid choice).

So that’s how you afford it

Tried a couple at a beer tasting last year. Both were sweet and not dry, so I wasn’t impressed. I would try again with the hopes of finding that well balanced, dry glass. Then again, why not just have wine??

Considering it’s a honey based beverage, dry and not sweet is a little hard. Lol.

That said, we have a meadery near us cranking out some great stuff. They’ve had a meadarita and an IPA inspired mead that have a toned down sweetness. They are also currently aging some mead in rye barrels. The barrel samples after 6 weeks was great. We go about once a month.

Wine is still wine, which is always fine. Ha ha. Sometimes it’s good to try new stuff and meads are an option that I’ve never explored before. The oldest fermented bev, so its fun to see what they do with the bees.

Don’t get me wrong though, still love drinking wine, just don’t always remember to pic and post up. [emoji485][emoji485]

If you’re going to start drinking mead, you’ll need to get a ram’s horn cup, grow a beard and carry an axe everywhere

Even though the sugar component is honey, the sweetness can be fermented away. And like you mentioned there are many ways to age that will greatly change the characteristics. The mead I sampled was sweet by design since it was at a beer tasting and it was meant to be something different. When I do see some (not popular around here) I do check out the tasting notes, but haven’t found anything to my liking yet. The search will continue...

Ha ha. I honestly had never of it till my read an article and shared with me. As luck would have it, a new meadery has opened up about 20 minutes from the house. Far closer than any winery.

Even though the sugar component is honey, the sweetness can be fermented away. And like you mentioned there are many ways to age that will greatly change the characteristics. The mead I sampled was sweet by design since it was at a beer tasting and it was meant to be something different. They make some dry ciders as well as a margarita and IPA inspired meads. Those have less sweet for sure. Both were good. They also have had some less sweet but still on the fruit side.

Without the meadery, I’m sure I wouldn’t be exposed to all the small batches only available in the tasting room.

Head High Pinot Noir - We actually had this wine on the last cruise we were on and loved it. Recently found it at our local market and celebrating since we have booked our next cruise for December to Cozumel, Mexico including a Jeep Safari, Mayan Ruins sightseeing and snorkeling. Cheers!
