I recently purchased the Overland + 2.5 inch lift for my Jeep. Does anyone have any experience cutting the new sway bar end links to size? I'm trying to find the easiest way to do this properly. I haven't had much luck looking on youtube. I will be running 33 until I can afford 35's. This has turned into an expensive hobby and the wife is less than thrilled lol.

Also does everyone suggest an alignment after I install it myself or should the manufacture suggested lengths be good?

Yes I have cut them to size before. Do it last once your jeep is on the ground. Once on the ground set the swaybar to about 5* above parallel and measure eye to eye from the axle to the sway bar. Set you end link ends next to the all thread rod at that length. Then cut to rod down on either side. Make sure you leave the rod long stat way you can always extend the links higher if needed at a later date

Can't say I've ever seen a kit with links you need to cut. Typically, with a kit of this size, I just move the rear links to the front and then install new ones in the rear. Guess you learn something every day. Good info from cozdude too

The instructions call for cutting to length?
The last Clayton lift I installed, the rears go to the front and the new ones go on the rear, no cutting.
But that was a JK.
If you must cut, use a good tube cutter and take a little bit off each end if that's how they are designed.
edit... looks like @cozdude has had to cut links before, what he says good advice.

On the Overland kit you get new end links front and rear. They are threaded on both ends (one would assume right and left hand threads).
I can see where you might have to trim the ends to get the right length.

A good hack saw will come in handy if you don't have or want to buy a band saw.
Before you cut, run a nut down past the cut point, once cut you can back the nut all the way off the threads.
This will clean the threads at cut point. Take a good file and clean the burrs off.

Cut off wheel. Sanding disk to round the edges

Clayton has great instructions on their website. Far better than most companies provide.

Toward the end of their instructions they give you swaybar lengths to cut. Cutoff wheel would be fine. Or, if you're not comfortable with it bring the rods to a shop and have them cut for you.

Alignment wouldn't hurt, but in my experience if the shop rolls it in and there's nothing to align, it will cost you significantly less, if they charge anything at all. I'd avoid places that charge a flat fee.

I cut mine a few weeks ago. Clamped it down and used a diamond blade on a grinder. Learned that was easiest. I found getting everything on properly was hard. I actually had a shop tighten the sway bars to the right length.
