Is This the NEW JEEP TREND?

The way I look at it everybody should be allowed to do whatever they want if it makes them happy as long as it does not affect the happiness of other people. If people want to wave, let them wave if people wanna collect their ducks, collect their ducks. It doesn’t bother me any. I like back roads , fire roads and two track trails. I bought my Mojave with that in mind. I’d love to try crawling and might do that someday but mostly car camping.
I remember as a kid taking trips and eating lunch next to our old station wagon at a folding table and chairs. Most of the stuff we do can be done with just about any four-wheel-drive or even 2 Wheel Dr. car pick up whatever I just choose to do it in my jeep because that is the mode of transportation I like. I thought about building it into an over landing rig, but I keep going back to my youth of eating and camping next to our old station wagon in a park or whatever and decided the tent on top and all the fancy dodads and everything is a bit overkill so we just throw our sleeping bags tent Stove whatever we need in the back of the gladiator and have fun and that’s what it’s all about having fun . If some one wants to put a duck on my door handle, that’s fine. I got a little collection in my center console that I keep them in. I try to wave at the jeeps with their ducks in a row (wish I could do that) as they usually are the wavers. Now if I see an old cj2 or 5. I become an idiot.

yep, do you.
my daughter has her duck collection in her 2015, I give her shit, she gives it back.
it makes her feel good when she gets one, means people like her Jeep, unlike me... I don't care

Welcome. You don't need a rooftop tent and dump thousands of dollars to overland. We've been out for days and fit everything we needed in the back of my Gladiator and that includes the folding table we cook and eat on.

The original overlanding was car or truck based camping near a road using a tent just as Launch describes. It was practiced in the USA, Australia, and parts of Africa. Tents started being put on top of trucks in Africa and Australia due to problems with wild animals such as lions, hyenas, and jackals.
