40s

The rig in question will be wheeled at my place tomorrow night. He'll probably lead the modded group ride, any bets on it not lasting the night?? The runs always get harder after the bbq, bets placed on who can make which obstacle and whatnot, if it's gonna get used hard thats when it will happen.

All kidding aside we all know that 30 will only take so much from a set of 40's, will be fun to see if he can coax it through. Been working on a log obstacle to give the heavily modded group fits, if it's ready it should be pretty tough.

If it was locked it would probably already be broken. This will be very fun to watch! PLEASE video all of this!!! I'll watch every minute! Sounds like fun!

Looks like they were in fact available in F-450 & F-550 Super-Duty trucks as Dana Super 60 (introduced in 2004 model year)........this article from Fourwheeler Network is from 2009

http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/transmission-drivetrain/131-0906-dana-super-60-front-axle/

Damn!!!! Tigrcky is feelin that burn. I can't believe this thread is still going. He's not the first to run 40's without tons. Lots of guys do it. Assuming its gonna explode as soon as he fires it up is crazy. Who knows how long it will last. Just let it alone. At least he is wheeling the jeep.

And it's not like he's telling everyone to go out and slap some 40's on cuz it'll be fine. He seems to know exactly what he is doing and understands the inherent risks to his drivetrain.

Yes the dana 60 was in the all the superduty until around 2004 not sure on the year but then the 550 went to the super 60 from what I have been ready I called ford mine is out of a 2002 f550. The only thing they are wide. Watch when buying cause I don't know the years but sometime around 1999 and 2002 the f250 came with a solid dana 50. Again not sure on the years.

Apparently this Super Dana 60 front differential trumps the coveted '78-'79 Dana 60 front differential........Learned something new from this......I've been looking at swapping out my F/R and thought about going the junkyard route but have decided on just spending the money and getting the best of the best and going with a 60/80 swap.......buying and modifying one of these may be cheaper but I just don't want to deal with the headaches

This thread is cracking me up. Thank you I never said this is how you run 40s on a stock dana 30. And some people think they know everything cause they read it on a forum.

...... And some people think they know everything cause they read it on a forum.

Not all of us. Not everyone's experience is learned from a forum ;) However, forums are where some of share our real world experience.

a super has the same housing as a dana 70 but shares the internals of a 60, other then wide the knuckles are bigger as well to accommodate the 10 lug 19.5 rim and heavier truck, I have ran 34s on a 30 with a locker and light gas pedal its easy to not break it but it happens dang quick, 40s will only make it happen even sooner. no real burn here im just saying dont waste your time with 44s or else you have a frequent tower discount. and no i dont believe everything i read in the forums but i do believe what i do see as a shop mechanic fixing everyone's mistakes simple as that, do what you want just as long as you give me a beer ill be happy :thumb::yup:

Hey GuillauneC91 how'd I get your pantys in a bunch?? Troll? WTF??

Easy there buddy... I was only following up on your comment "That's the internet" because this forum being on the internet people like to make comments that are sometimes not very constructive to say the least. Not directed at you lol.

Don't follow me, I'm lost too! O|||||||O

Unless I am mistaken this was a "check out these tires, they are great" thread. The OP never posted rig stats or tried to make this a DIY on how to run 40's on a D30. He was then asked about his rigs stats and just answered the question and then everyone wants to teach him how to build a rig? He then later came on saying he knows this isn't a good set up and he's living on barrowed time and then the heckling continues? :yawn37: :grayno:

Not only this, but have you ever wheeled with a guy that broke?? 99%of the time, everyone is going to stay and help him off the trail.. This happened to me on the second to last trip I went on.. Wasted our whole day trying to get my buddy's rig off of a boulder strewn trail with a broken dana 44 (37" tires). Had he not broken, we would have got to run at least 5 more awesome trails. So.... In a way, if you're wheeling with other guys and you know you have a weak point, it's a little selfish.

Im with you on the fact that it sucks when someone breaks, but plenty of people wheel with 40's on D44s for years without complications. What does "wheel" mean to one person vs another doesn't matter...only that it can and has been done by MANY. Ideal...NO!

I bet you feel welcomed now!!! Sorry man! We all have our opinions, and the only thing that is certain is that you will never get everyone to agree...

lol exactly what I was thinking

Haha it's just like jko by the second page everything is a argument. I'm the op and just want to share a pic of my jeep and now it's on 7 pages of BS

haha :standing wave:

I totally agree with you Strizzy! I don't understand the need for some people to constantly rag on others. It's like the same group and some are just chiming in to stroke others....uh....egos. Reason why I don't go on other forums anymore. Hey, I can be a dick, but some of this shit is getting ridiculous. Leave it at the work place.

We may not get to see any greasy guts from that d30. But here is the dana 44 shaft that was ground down to nubs on my buddies yota running 37s on the "crushers"trail in Tillamook a couple months ago. You can see the remains of u joint, needle bearings, and shaft ends. ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1385165563.990284.jpg [/ATTACH]
