KP's JKUR Build

And now Deep Thoughts, about the RKSJK3501

I've got a little more than 500 miles on my lift thus far, all city/highway/towing, and have had absolutely no problems. The ride is just as comfortable as stock and I know this to be true b/c the wife said the ride feels about the same after going for a drive. The handling is also about the same despite the added ride height. I haven't had a chance to get it off road yet, so I can't speak for the flex and articulation, but hopefully that'll happen sooner than later. One nice side effect of having a lift is how easy it is to get under the Jeep to check bolts or tighten or adjust things. No need to jack it up for simple jobs, just set the parking break, put it in gear, and get to it! The only thing that feels different is the way the wind hits me on the highway. But that could have simply been the combination of a really windy day and my awesome coefficient of drag that resembles a bath tub in a wind tunnel.

Since doing my own lift (with lots of experienced help!), I've worked on another RK kit as well as a boutique brand lift and I must say the RK parts in the other lift also went on incredibly easily and painlessly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lift kit due to its ease of install, Rock Krawlers responsive customer service, parts interchangeability and comfortable over all ride. Again, I haven't had it off road yet but kits identical like mine have done rather well in that department on my friends rigs.

I did have to make one very simple mod for passengers such as my wife or my mom…

This is working great for now and I hope it continues to do so until I can figure out my rocksliders/sidesteps situation. There are just too many great options out there at to choose from at the moment.

Based on your bolt on design you are following the LoD would probably be your best bet.

I'm like f***in' Pablo Picasso in here!

One of the down sides to being part of team low & slow is that it's not just a catchy name. Most of use really are low and we wheel pretty damn slow. As a result, your skids are going to take quite the beating (assuming you have skids). Every now and then it's a good idea to drop your skids and check for damage. As you can see, I have found a few rocks here and there...

All it really takes is a little love with from a wire brush and an angle grinder to get that rust out of there. Followed by a coat of rust-over primer, a few rounds of semi gloss black and ta-da! Looks good as new. Protip - If you think it's dry, give it 15 more minutes!

Ok, well maybe I'm not ready for the Rolls Royce spray booth yet and I could have gone over the whole thing with a sander, but I think it looks pretty damn good. I bet the first rock I hit will really appreciate it!

I can see clearly now… (Aurora LED ALO2-P4T)

In my continued quest to light up the world with my JK, I’ve decided to add a set of lights to my a-pillar. I read a metric ton of posts on LED’s/brackets/companies and since I’ve already got 2 sets of Rigids on my rig, my first inclination was to go back to them. I really like the RI light bracket for a set of Dually’s, but unfortunately the design does not allow for any lateral alignment. Did I mention how much I like it? Damn!

For that reason, and for that reason alone I had to find myself a different bracket. All the other designs are just about the same, one bend and two bolt holes. I’ve had good luck with Rock Hard 4x4 products thus far in my build, so I picked up a set of their brackets for this job. I conveniently stumbled across a group purchase with a few other light obsessed Jeepers around the same time and plunked down some money on a set of ALO2-P4T spots from Aurora LED rated at 3200 Lumens each. I don’t know a lot about this company, so I was a little reluctant at first but the price lured me in to try them. After receiving my order, my worries were put to rest. The housing is very sturdy, the wiring connections are excellent, and the pig tails are plenty long enough to tuck them out of the way.

The bracket install is pretty straight forward, simply pull two bolts from the a-pillar, pop the gasket on, then the bracket and tighten it all back up. Unfortunately, the light brackets didn’t line up very well. I don’t know if I got a defective piece or the holes weren’t drilled properly, but mine sits fairly crooked. I’ve contacted RockHard4x4 about it, but as of this posting I haven’t heard anything back. In the image below, the green line signifies where they are supposed to line up (just like the ones from KC or Poison Spyder do), the blue line is where they fall naturally, and the red line is how far up you can push them. However, when you push them up to get them close, then you expose the bolt hole in the a-pillar.

The wiring is fairly straightforward, pull the hood cowl (be gentle with those star screws) and tuck the wiring out of the way. I’m connecting mine to my sPod so all the switches are already in place. All in all, I’m very happy with these lights. They are extremely powerful, they look good, and are really easy on the wallet when compared to Rigid equivalents.

Looks good buddy. I love my knock off Duallys and I'll be buying more knock off Rigid Industries products from my friends website. He has good prices so I'm hoping to have a 20"er through my grille VIA the Strike Force Zebra (or whatever the hell the name of the company is) mount and then a 50"er up top and idk what I want to do for the rear yet. We'll see. I already bought a second set of "Dually's" for fog light replacements. I'll keep you informed on how that DIY goes. It theoretically should go well but we'll see.

Keep on Jeepin brother...I love where your rig is headed :p

The lights all appear to be the same color as the headlights. I thought these LED lights were a very white color?'

Oh and how do those A pillar lights work? Do they shine off the hood at all?

Thanks man! There's deff some more lighting coming my way. I think I may be addicted to lighting. NO ONE STAGE AN INTERVENTION! :D

You can thank photo angle trickery and iPhone filters for that one. The LEDs are a completely different shade from the stock OEM head lights.
The a-pillar lights don't shine off the hood at all. They do light up the very edge of my hood near my latches, but not enough to be distracting. Happy to show you at RC in Feb.

KP this is an intervention...its the magic tricks.....mostly the ones involving fire.

Or you could come to Rausch next week ;)

since you have the spod, you dont really need much of the harness that comes with the lights correct? like you can hook them up directly? I will be adding some more lights soon and finally have my spod in.
