ARB Fridges ?

I really want to get the ARB fridge soon for my 17 JKUR and for use in my garage.... I have a power question: Unless I'm blind, there is no power outlet in the back of the jeep. Is there a Mopar plug in kit for that or should I install a new plug/line straight to the battery? thanks in advance for the advice...

Our oem power outlet is on the right rear interior trim panel by the subwoofer. However, ARB recommends the wiring being at least 8AWG, which I doubt that it is. The ARB harness is 40 bucks and goes straight to the battery, it includes everything. I built my own on the WJ for 30. If I were to do it over, I would have just paid the 40 for the ARB on both Jeeps. ARB keeps it easy. With that being said, the ARB socket only works with the fridge, you can't power other 12v accessories.

Fridge can plug into regular cigarette socket (with HD wiring of 8AWG) or the ARB fridge socket:

However, ARB fridge socket only accepts the fridge, you can't install other items into it:

And here's our oem 12v socket, which I assume was not wired with adequate wiring to run the fridge:

I didn't notice on the website that the ARB socket was proprietary... I think I will build my own so it's more versatile and switch it to the battery like previously stated. Thanks!

On a side note... I think my next couple mods will also be a Winch & an ARB compressor..... should I be using one of those SPODS to add these accessories or do most guys just run everything to the battery? I don't want the battery to get to cluttered.. On my hot rod I ran accessories to a block then to the battery... I want to do whats right & safe on the Jeep.

Winch power leads have to go to the battery. But the controller can be wired into a switch system sure.

I have an ARB twin. The power leads have to be wired to the battery. The switch wires are connected to my spod.

The ARB fridge is also direct to the battery.

A switch system will clean up the battery certainly but big components need to be wired directly to it. My KCs and radios are wired at the spod, not to the battery. Any switch system will work. Get the one that works best for you.

That's not it. It would be on the other side, and not all Jeeps have them. It depends on the year, trim level, and option groups.

Edit: just noticed you have a '17. I'm not sure where they are in that model year.

Yeah.... I didn't get a lot of the options with mine.... probably would of cost me $1000 to get a plug in the rear anyway... (that didn't sound right) lol

You could get your own power socket for about 15-20 bucks:

https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1.....1.1.64.psy-ab..0.7.591...0i67k1.bn78Zb9rC6s

Then you could still buy the ARB harness, and just don't use their plug. That way it comes with everything already and just hook it onto your socket. If you were to price out the fuse, fuse holder, and the 8AWG separately, it may end up costing you more. The ARB kit includes everything already other than the 12v auxillary socket you would want.

Perfect... Instead of the SPOD right now, I will look into maybe adding a second battery and run those 3 items direct like you said. Thanks!

Agreed! Thats what I'm going to do.

Sounds like you're hanging out at some classy places. Try another part of town.

I'm jealous. I want one really bad. Just so expensive, and I'm cheap.

I was to cheap to get an ARB or Engel! I have an Edgestar which has worked great for me. I have had it for six or seven years.

Like a lot have said; why didn't I get one sooner! It is such a great thing to be able to go into the back country for days and not worry about your food going bad because all of your ice melted!

Or even worse...your beer warms up...

Your best bet is to get a thermometer and put it inside...they seem to vary by a few degrees...I set mine to 27 degrees, which keeps it around 34-35

There is a way to calibrate the temperature reading to more closely match the inside temp. This info is easily googled, but here's the basic:
You simply hold down the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons together for 5 seconds until AOF appears in the display. Now adjust up 6 degrees, or down 6 degrees. Once this is done it will stay in permanent memory until you readjust. I did this to mine so I can set it at 34 degrees, and it stays right above freezing. Enjoy! [emoji106]

Great tip! Had no clue you could adjust the temp reading
