MESSIN AROUND with MOBY

Doing more desktop cleaning, I came across a host of pics that we took of Moby back in the early part of December. Moby was of course, more than happy to have Jet over at the body shop getting his quarter panels repaired and completely out of action. Suffice it to say, he would once again serve as our primary play rig and the following miscellaneous pics are from some of the fun we had, messin around with him out in the desert. I hope you enjoy.

Just because we could, Cindy and I loaded Moby up and headed out into the vastness that's known as, Nevada!

Basking in the glow of another Northern Nevada sunset.

Moby always all too eager to show just how much better he is than Jet.

It's a good thing that Moby is no longer running 40x15.50's on Slabs with 3.5" of back spacing because he may not have made it though this tunnel if he still was.

Moby picking a canyon to explore and just because he can.

And, what better way to wrap up a day than to do it out in the middle of a dry lake bed.

Working our way back home, Moby decided on a whim to take the second trail to the right.

Oh boy - cyanide! A sure sign that we were heading into an old gold mining district.
20190114202245-02df52c5-me.jpg

And, what better way to enjoy some cyanide than to do it with a cuddly cholla.

Working our way into the hills.

And some really alien looking rock formations.

Close by was this old miners home built into the hillside.

Taking a peek inside.

Being that building supplies were so scares out in the desert, it was pretty common for miners to recycle wooden crates for things like doors or in this case, roofing. What isn't so common is to still see what was printed on them well over 100 years later.

Here you can see that this crate was stamped with December 6, 1907.

If you can believe it, this used to be a trail that could be traveled by wagon or old Model T! In spite of all his taunting for us to give it a try, we convinced Moby to save it for another day. We were after all, by ourselves and losing daylight.

Walking about half way up and looking back.

Here's a shot from all the way up top looking back. Can't hardly tell there's an obstacle from here.

Working our way around and up into another canyon.

Another home?

eh, based on the old hand written note - more likely a powder room where dynamite was stored.

With the sun all but about down, Moby took us to a high point to enjoy the colors in the sky and on the hills and all before taking us safely back home.

And here we thought Moby was stuck in the garage while Jet Li was having all the fun in the fall.

Nice treasure trove of shots you guys found! Really great rock formations out there. You guys never stop amazing me with places you find.

Sitting here reading this thread and looking at the amazing photos makes me long for the freedom that the open spaces of the West have to offer. Just as you posted this thread I was on a conference call and was informed that my presence would be required in an emergency meeting at 5 o'clock in the morning at a branch that is an hour and a half drive from my house.

It's days like this that all of the hard work and long hours that you and Cindy put into trips like this one that allow me to escape the harsh reality of my day to day to relish in yours, at least briefly.... Some day I hope to be wondering thru those wide open spaces again.

Until then, keep the pics coming!! I need a break! 😁

Those rock formations are incredibly interesting...and it look is like a new trail with some crawling action needs more exploring...I'm in...

Man that’s so cool! It really is fun to imagine and old model t or jeep doing those trails so people could get to work or home and here you guys are exploring them and wheeling them for fun lol

Very nice looking area, rock formations were certainly unique. Pretty cool to still see the stamps on those boards being they were protected from weather

So cool. Need to get out to Nevada more.

Nevada is your neighbor

I’m always amazed by the landscape and the history to Nevada! Thanks for sharing!

Glad we could share it with you. :yup:

Moby is so cool. I love that Jeep. All yalls rigs are awesome. Very cool to get see so much of Nevada, thanks for sharing. Looks like to much fun.

We're just so glad that there's so much of Nevada that we can see. Glad you enjoy the pics.

As a local show states in it's intro, Nevada has over 70 million acres of wide open possibilities. :yup:

Love those old mines. Those are some super cool shacks built.

Where we were was really remote and there was very little evidence that anyone had been out that way in quite some time. Fortunately, that means there are fewer assholes who can find and ruin it. We'll have to take you out that way sometime.

This is all I could see when I looked at those rocks. Lol

If the desert could talk.... Very Cool.

Tell me about it. I try hard to do research in old books and learn what I can but it's a far cry from what the desert could tell you if it could speak.

Very cool. It’s nice to see that places like this still exist. So many of them have been vandalized and destroyed.

Fortunately, there are still places out in Nevada that are so remote, so hard to get to that most people would never know to look for them. It's a big part of why I never say where they are.

Good to see Moby. Thanks for the detailed pictures of the mining shacks. That stuff is so cool.

Thanks. There's still so much more to explore out that way and we would have had we not run out of daylight. We'll be going back for sure and hope to bring you more pics in the near future :)

I love seeing Moby out in the wild. What size of tires/wheels is he running now?

40x13.50 Cooper STT Pros mounted on Chamber Pro II's :)

Awesome shots love getting lost in nevada!

Thanks. It's why we live where we live :yup:

The area was crazy pretty with really alien looking rock formations. Best part is, it was kind of hard to even find the turn off to start our journey there. With any luck, it'll remain a hidden gem to most and be a place we can share with some of our friends.

No kidding! Without our modern conveniences, it's be a harsh existence out there.

We'll need to find some time and plan a trip out that way to do more exploring :yup:
