Dakar Truck Class - Tell Me This Wouldn't be FUN!!

That takes crazy to a whole new level! Pretty sure that is more crazy than I'd be able to handle.

Mel and I have talked about this race since it is one of our favorites and how cool the support truck class is. It would take millions $$$$ to not only be successful, but just to finish. I have followed this race almost since its inception back when it was known as the Paris to Dakar rally, it remains somewhere near the top of my list of challenges to conquer :thumb: Let us give the 3 different classes the team is entered in at the King Of The Hammers a good run this year and plan from there :icon_crazy:

All 2 or 4 wheel drive vehicles conforming to Score Regulations (2006-2010 Score International Off-road Racing Rules and Regulations) are admissible, with the exception of classes ½-1600 and 5-1600, under the following conditions: Respect of articles Appendix J – FIA 285.7 and 285.3.
-Dakar Rule Book

You could build a trophy truck!! Or SCORE Class 3? (So you could do a Jeep, probably cheaper too)

Build it. Race it in Baja 1000 and wherever else. Then when the funds are there, take it as it is to the Dakar.

After KOH of course. BTW, is KOH televised? If so, where can I watch it.

Really? I won't argue since clearly you know more about this than I do, but I know a few severely wounded British soldiers entered the race, and sure they had sponsors, but I don't think it was millions of dollars (could be wrong.) would be cool if you could get jeep to sponsor you guys!

To this point, it has not been televised. Ultra4 has had the same streaming feed, with commentary and interviews, that played on the jumbo screen in hammer town for the past few years on their website.

Oh you could enter on a welfare budget and beg borrow and steal spare parts, but the chances of successfully finishing are not very high. In fact, last year Robby Gordon was allowing any individual to buy a seat in his other race car running the Dakar for an even $1.5 million or so.

Even with sponsors covering much of the cost, the overall price is still staggering. But if you want something bad enough, you can always find a way!

I got like $1,000 for the cause. Wanna join my team?

This is my team. I can remove you.
This is true.......from what I gather Adam is a rather large individual so if he wanted to remove you he probably could......but let's not sort to violence........we're all friends here.....just get in Dakar and drive....

Au contraire, you would need to kick in an extra $2k for the privilege of riding with me.

This is my team. I can remove you.

With this kind of budget, we should probably think about going for the 24hrs of Lemons (not Lemans), I think $500(?) was the max allowed budget. Just google search this event, this race started off like the JKX, pretty much unknown with only half a dozen people, now they are limiting the number of teams.

That is awesome:

"1.5: Winners and Prizes: Classes are assigned (aka, pulled from our butts) during tech inspection based on the judges' best guesses; post-assignment whining gets you kicked into the next faster Class. Class winners are paid in nickels: Class A (for cars with a prayer of winning) soaks up $400; Class B (for cars with a prayer of finishing) walks off with $500; Class C (for cars with no prayer of finishing) drags away $600.Winner of the Index of Effluency--as determined by a super-secret equation including vehicle age, general hooptieness, reliability of country of origin, unlikelihood of success, and the Organizers' whim--receives $601, plus a free entry in the team's next race."

Unfortunately, there is no truck class and no dirt. On second thought, maybe that's a perfect place for Overlander to start.
