DISAPPOINTED with Golden Nugget Laughlin NV

For any of you thinking about staying at the Golden Nugget in Laughlin, allow me to share what Cindy and I just experienced with them before you do. And, I should first note that this is a hotel that we have stayed at on multiple occasions over the years and mainly because it's pet friendly. That said, on our most recent stay on January 6, 2024, we found ourselves very disappointed with the service that we received.

Back on 12/03/2023, I booked a room (confirmation GNL106521410 – copy of this attached) for our New Year Kick Off Run and told all the attendees to book there as well. About a week before our event, DirtheadDavis informed me that he was a few months shy of his 21st birthday and that he couldn't book a room unless he had someone who was 21 years or older to have his room associated with. Of course, I agreed to have him use my name.

On the day of check in, I got my room just fine and as I was trying to check-in DirtheadDavis, I was told that his reservation was nowhere to be found. After spending the better part of half an hour at the check in desk, I was then told that the room I got was actually his and that it was my original booking, the one I made at the beginning of December, that they couldn't find – it just didn’t exist. To this, I asked if they had any other rooms available and was told “yes”, and that I could even have the one they were going to assign to me being that it was a pet room. Now, this would have all been fine except I was told that the room would go from $120 (including tax, resort fee and pet fee) for the night to now being $235!! That's $115 MORE to get the exact same room and in spite of the fact that it was them who lost my reservation. When I asked about this, the only thing I was told is that they were "sorry for the trouble".

I'll tell you, if it weren't for the fact that it was late in the evening and that I was essentially at their mercy for a room that was pet friendly in the area, I would have just walked out and found another hotel to stay at or gone home.

Anyway, just wanted to share this experience with you so that you know what you may have to deal with if you decide to book there.

Oh, and just for proof, here is a copy of the original confirmation that I had received from the Golden Nugget.

So frustrating. Sorry you guys had to deal with all of that. Don't know why they didn't just comp you the new room as a complimentary "sorry we messed up", especially with the business you brought with you. Not to mention all of the past trips and business you have brought them. That extra $235 they made just lost them a shit ton more in the future.

I was listening to the whole thing as you and your son were the ones holding up the damn line.. lol. Pretty shitty in my Book, especially since they sold all of our rooms because of you.

Also sucked they wouldn’t let the kids hang out near us in the lounge even if it was close to the entrance. It’s not like the place was jumping with business. But I did get a Free drink from Jeremy… so I was happy. 😬

Was super confused and also disappointed to see they were just as confused as we were. Here’s my confirmation which has a completely different number.

I should note, I called them a week prior to ensure this would be acceptable - to which they said it was. The most puzzling thing to me was that despite the reservations having the same name, all contact and card info was completely different and in mine. They acted as if Eddie’s original one never existed. Clearly, it did and it sucks they upcharged the hell out of you for what was indefinitely their mistake.

Since all the casino/hotel combos in Nevada went corporate instead of "connected" customer service has left the State.

My wife and I both have enjoyed (in the past) the hospitality of the State of Nevada and their "connected" combos.

When we went out in 1988 (yes kids, I'm that old and things existed before you were born) for our honeymoon the transition had started, but The Strip was still fun and cheap if looked for it.

Our last trip, DAMN, 19 years ago for my 40th, Fremont Street was the only place to find "Old Vegas" hospitality and we had to look for it.

Since you have a confirmation, with a number and dates, I'd still fight them all the way up the corporate ladder.

Many years ago, I booked a rental car for my wife…they charged her an additional $250 for some nonsensical fee; I emailed their customer service to have the charge removed from the bill…they refused to do so.

From that point on, I no longer do business with that company…and I always email them when I rent from their competition with a running tally as to how much revenue they have lost…for over a decade.

I think what was the most frustrating thing or should I say, the most annoying thing is that when it had become clear things were fucked up, they could have just said, "I'm sorry for the trouble but we do have a room available and can take care of you". This as opposed to making me wait for the guy to talk to the manager or call guest services in and front of me and only to tell me how they have no record of my booking. Like "see, you're full of shit" and now we're gonna stick it to you.

I find it difficult to imagine that I don't show up in their system as being a frequent visitor especially being that they're always sending me emailers about deals they have going. But, whatever. And yeah, that was pretty lame of them about your kids hanging out in the main entrance. Not like there were games or even a bar out there.

Yeah, "Old Vegas" hasn't been around since the early 90's. You can still find the feel of it but only in the small towns around the state.

As far as fighting this goes, I sent them an email letting them know what happened and to say how disappointed I was with the service I received but doubt they'll ever get back to me. And really, at this point, whatever.

It really is so stupid. Clearly, none of this is about the $115 but rather, the principle of getting charged almost double what I was originally charged and all because of their fuckup.
What a bunch of fuckers. Hope that manager has a chance to try and sterilize a hippo.
LOL - if only life were fair like that.

I agree…it’s not the money, it’s the principle…and since we usually spend about $4K a year on rentals their loss is far greater than mine.

You weren’t the only one. Being that we had no intention of bringing our dog, I didn’t bother to mention when I made the reservation back at the beginning of December. When we went to check in, I told them about our dog and that we needed a pet room.

The guy basically said it was my responsibility to inform when I booked the room (even though I had tried to explain it was last minute addition and had no other choice). I got lectured for 5 minutes and then was told about the pet fee and deposit which I was happy to pay… after I said “no problem” I was then told just how much of a problem it was and was lucky I wasn’t having my room canceled and charged for the days current rate.

wtf? So even with a confirmation they made you pay $235?
Unfortunately, I didn't have the confirmation number with me at the time. Being that I booked so long ago, it was no longer on my phone email like I had assumed it would be and I didn't bring my computer with me on the trip. I know, I know, stupid me for not thinking about this potential problem but according to them - I just didn't exist in their system anyway. Well, other than on DirtheadDavis' booking

Well that just sucks.

Well that just sucks.
Granted we didn’t have to pay extra like you guys did but the treatment was pretty shitty. On top of that, their “pet relief” area was muddy as fuck so we couldn’t use it… then I got yelled at for not using it… so the last walk of our morning yesterday I let him walk around in the mud and was happy to let him back in the room and on the beds. 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
