Jacking info for noobs

Love the 6 Ton stands from harbor freight. It's a really nice well built set. One the lowest setting it's perfect for 37's

For 37's, I couldn't agree more. For 40's, it's borderline but, not that big of a deal being that I can't physically raise our Jeep too much more before it hit's the floor joints above. :crazyeyes:

One thing I didn't think of when I bought my jeep was I may have to buy more tools , man what a bummer.:evil snicker:

LOL!! Funny thing is, I now own 2 complete sets of tools - one for home and one for the trail. I also have a 3rd partial set for when we're doing a big install. :crazyeyes:

This is what I'm working on. It's not the grabbing for the trip that gets me, but putting them all back in the right place that I find annoying. 2 complete sets is where it's at.

Any chance some of the more experienced guys (read WOL, GCM 2, etc.) could put together a list of the tools you carry for runs? I think I have a pretty good grasp on what is needed, but don't recall seeing a comprehensive list (e.g. wrench types and sizes, sockets, specialty tools etc.) posted anywhere.

What HF floor jack do you recommend? I was there today and picked up a 6 ton bottle jack for the trail (remember seeing this when we helped that family change a flat in texas) and a creeper.

FYI they have creepers on sale now for around $29.

That would be cool. I'm pretty mechanical and could figure it out but I would end up with my whole tool set with me. The tools I've picked so far have been just from what I read or have heard about from friends. I'm stock except for a BB lift and don't do anything extreme. Yet , so I guess one would need to see a list and assess what they would really need.:idontknow:

Being that I try to carry only what I need, I've been trying to list everything out and give a description of what each one is most commonly used for. I'll try my best to finish it up and get it posted sooner than later.

That will be a very helpfull list for sure. Now....if I only had the know how to use all of them.

Cool! From the looks of it I have most of that stuff. Probably just need to organize it better. :crazy_eyes: I can't wait to see the new and improved list! :thumb:

I have been thinking about combining the torque spec sheet with the size/type tool you need for each application on one sheet. Has that been done before? If not, I don't mind creating it. I'm thinking a laminated copy in the jeep would be a nice reference for when you can't access project-jk.

X3! Really looking forward to the write-up! In the meantime, I'm about to buy a bottle jack. Is this one fine? It has a 13 1/2 in max lift height. My jeep will have a 3" TF LCG Lift and 35" tires. This'll be for the trails.
