JK 4.0 HO Swap for real.

Hi Ollie,

What a project that is !! That looks fantastic!! :2thumbsup:

I know what you mean about the 2.8 CRD because I have a KJ year 2007 with that engine in it. I bought it brand new from Dutton Forshaw in Canterbury and I spent the first 3 years bringing the Jeep back to them almost once a month as it was so unreliable. Anything that could go wrong did but thankfully it was all under waranty and luckily most of the problems were cured once the warranty ended.

Last year I bought an electronic box that plugs between the ECU and the Injection Pump in order to keep a good response without regearing as I went from 28in stock tyres to 31in Mickey Thompson Baja. It did cost me a bit but I don't regret it as the gain of power is very noticeable from low to mid revs.

As for Power/Fuel Consumption ratio I didn't work it out precisely but I can tell you that I drove my JK Rubicon with a 3.8l V6 from the Garage where I bought it last October in SouthPort just above Liverpool to Hythe in Kent. This is a 300 Miles journey and at a steady 70 mph speed the 3.8l Petrol was not as juicy as the KJ is when I regularly go to Staffordshire.

I am also working on mods on my JK at the moment but as we are not far from each other it would be good to meet once your mods and mine are finished.

Cheers,

Chris

Very interesting indeed - I was wondering about the MOT as well - not always an easy inspection. My son lives with his wife and family in Bristol and often tells me about the MOT inspections being a pain.

OK so im currently doing the wiring. Im not good at this kinda thing so im going old school. Xj harness for the engine and transmission. Heater and electric windows are all that will remain of my jk's creature comforts. Im gonna splice the jk tail lights into the xj harness at the firewall and have custom switches for the lights and wipers. Im gonna try to mount the xj ignition switch to the jk steering column.

Im also considering mounting the xj gauge cluster in the dash as the jk one will be useless for my basic layout. Could the jk computer and dash be used? Probably! Do I want to waste my time trying to figure out a complicated modern system? No!

Just finished the downpipe. As straight as possible and fits over the front driveshaft and hugs the floor. Only thing left to do on the exhaust is the hangers and a cherry bomb.

I cant get the xj gauge to read right. Not enough resistance in the sender I think. Will have to look into that. I still have a lot of work to do on the interior. I drove 82 miles this morning. Took 16 litres.
