JL hood latches on a JK

Sorry for the necro-post, but I wanted to see if you folks had any insights for me. I decided to do this mod (no drill) on my 2012 JKU and everything went fine, except the tab from the lower clasp assembly that hangs over the fender will not sit flush. I made sure the tabs were completely removed and there was no alignment problems, but there's about 1/16 or 2/16 of an inch or so and it's just "floating." I ended up manufacturing a rubber gasket to fill the gap, but it seems like all other DIY pictures how it flush.
I don't know if there's a difference between actual Mopar parts or aftermarket ones, but I bought the actual OEM pieces. I'm just trying to find out if this is normal or if something isn't right. But there's only so many ways you can lines this up with the tabs removed. Any input is appreciated!
